What is Football?
It’s a wild & wonderful combination if intelligence, speed, agility & strength – with a large dose of adrenaline thrown in! Legendary NFL coach, Chuck Noll said football “is a geometric explosion of variables”. For those who have played the game, hard work, teamwork, pride & friendships also come to mind.
*Excellence: “It’s not about being ‘perfect’; It IS about always trying your best” [M.Krzyzeski]
Future Brightness
In January the seniors established their TEAM GOALS for 2007 – Among these include:
Undefeated at home
Team unity
Being Disciplined
Working Together
Section Champs
Train like Champions
Play in the Metrodome
Pre-season Practice
The pre-season schedule is as follows: Day One—August 13. All players going into grades 9 to 12, will report to the varsity locker room at 7:45 a.m, sharp, for team meetings. 9th grade will meet with their coaches separately from the varsity.
All players must have practice gear ready for day one! Bring spikes, soft-sole training shoes & dress for physical activity. Players will receive instruction on practice times for the next two weeks.
Equipment Needs
All varsity players [10 to 12] must purchase game socks [$10] & mouth guard [$1]
Freshmen need a mouth guard & may buy games socks as well.
**Remember, all eligibility forms & fees must be taken care of within the FIRST DAYS of practice! Forms are available through the Activities Office at the high school. Contact Mark Johnson [AD], or Jane Wahlin [secretary] at 685-4913, or 685-4917 for any questions regarding this process. The fee for football is $115.
“Communicating Success”
“Helping Hands”
There are numerous ‘projects’ for which parents’
is always welcomed. If you can afford some time & would like to know what you can do, please E-mail me at: [email protected] In progress – End of season awards and recognition program. Joyce Backes & Renee Lashinski, coordinators.
Football Staff
This season some new faces will be seen around the practice fields. Shannon Humbert has been hired at the Middle School as a physical education-health teacher replacing the retiring, Greg Beaumont. Shannon is a 1989 grad of Rocori & spent 8 years at Eastview [Apple Valley District] and the past two years at Mound-West Tonka as head football coach. He brings excellent experience to our staff. Aaron Schwartz will replace Coach Baumgarten who is moving into the asst. principal position at the high school. He will serve as a volunteer this season. His loyalty to the program goes without question & his continued help, much appreciated. Aaron is a 2003 grad of Rocori and a 2007 grad of St. John’s University. He played four years of football at LBer.
“To turn fundamentals into habits, requires intensive, intelligent & repetitive action”
$$$$$$$$$$
A question was asked of me regarding how we use funds earned through the Super Valu Food Stand. It’s a good question & one worthy of an answer. The football budget does not cover all expenses incurred throughout the season so the money earned helps pay for such things as:
Senior awards, senior dinner, end of season awards, skill enhancement activities [Melrose & St. John’s passing competitions] photo processing, motivational & goal-setting materials, technology, etc.
PHYSICALS!
Incoming sophomores are reminded that you need a medical physical this year prior to participating in a varsity sport. These can be competed through a medical doctor, or chiropractor. The paperwork is available through the A.D.’s Office.
“A decade after graduation, almost everyone will have forgotten where & what they played”. But every time they speak, everyone will know whether or not they are educated”
[Theodore M. Hessburg, President, Notre Dame University.]
Media Night
Mark your calendar for Thursday, August 23rd, 6:30 pm as “MEDIA NIGHT”. Team pictures will be taken & parents & and family members are encouraged to come out, take photos and visit with our parents. We will use the varsity field—if rain we’ll use the gym. Varsity-seniors & juniors, Sophomore team and freshman team pictures will be taken by Michael’s Photography. More information will follow.
FOOTBALL
“I live…eat…breathe…and dream of the action…the excitement…the competition. The wild adventure of each new GAME is like walking on the edge of the HORIZON, knowing whatever is at the END, I will have given to the game EVERYTHING I HAVE.”
