*QUICKTIME *iPOD *CELLThe ROCORI Spartans wrestling team took to the mat last week as they
prepare for the 2008-2009 season. The team is filled with players that
have varsity experience, and head coach Paul Court believes that their
experience could translate into success. In this story, Coach Court
gives us an inside look at the team and gives insight as to what we
might expect to see from the team this season.
ROCORI Wrestlers place 5th at Foley Falcon Duals
The ROCORI Spartan Wrestling team started their season on Saturday, December 6th winning 2 and losing 1 team dual meets to place 5th at the Foley Falcon Duals team tournament at Foley.
The Spartans 1st dual was against Paynesville in which the Spartans lost 47-22. The Spartans recorded wins from Dylan Gertken, Adam Liestman, Caramon Hanson, Ben Wittrock and Jeremiah Dorf in the loss to a good Paynesville team.
The 2nd match of the day the Spartans came out on top 39-32 over Parkers Prairie. Nate Ness recorded a 38 second pin along with pins coming from Dylan Gertken, Adam Liestman, Caramon Hanson and Ben Wittrock. Mike Provo and Alex Weiman recorded wins for Rocori.
The 3rd match of the day was a win against Pierz 45-32. The Spartans had wins from Nate Ness, Dylan Gertken, Adam Liestman, Caramon Hanson, Ben Wittrock, Alex Weiman, Jeremiah Dorf and Kyle Stein to cruise to the victory. Levi Olivier wrestled a great match, but came up just short against a very good Pierz wrestler.
The Spartans had 3 wrestlers who went 3-0 on the day. Dylan Gertken, Caramon Hanson and Ben Wittrock were all undefeated. Nate Ness, Alex Weiman and Jeremiah Dorf were all 2-1 on the day.
Rocori wrestles at St. Cloud Tech Tuesday, December 9, at Sartell on December 11th and are participating in an individual tournament on Saturday December13 at Shakopee. The Spartans 1st home meet is against Apollo on December 18th followed by a Triangular meet against Eden Valley and Becker on December 19th
at ROCORI.
