ROCORI Spartan Wrestler Sam Kuss Takes 2nd in Section 6AAA

Sam Kuss will represent the ROCORI Spartans at the 2012 State Wrestling Tournament this coming Friday, March 2nd. He'll be wrestling in the 182# class. He was one of two 182# representatives to go to the state tournament after successfully competing at the Section 6AAA wrestling tournament that took place at Hopkins High School this past Friday and Saturday, February 24th and 25th. This video includes Sam's four wrestling matches during the sectional meet.

ROCORI Wrestlers Compete @ 6AAA Section Tournament: #152 Jordan Hemmesch

Jordan Hemmesch, ROCORI senior wrestler goes up against Hunter Durand of Buffalo in the first round of the 2012 Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament. This was the first match in the #152 weight bracket. Last year, Jordan took 2nd at the Section competition and went on to compete at the State Tournament level. He is the #1 seed at the section 6AAA tournament #152 bracket.

In this story you will hear from Varsity Wrestling Co-Head Coach, Jeron Lieser. This is Lieser’s first year as head coach of the Spartans wrestling squad. Although the team has a good group of seniors, their overall participation is less than years past. This means each wrestler will have to put in that little extra effort in order for the team to be successful this year. However, if there is any group of kids that can do it, it is surely our ROCORI Spartans. Coach Lieser, the rest of the staff, and the entire team would like to encourage the community to get on out to all of their home matches and root them on. They truly appreciate your support.

37th Annual Junior High Wrestling Invitational

18 teams from around the state are gathered today at Rocori High School for the 37th Annual Junior High Wrestling Invitational. 7th, 8th and 9th graders are competing in a round robbin of matches throughout the day. Over the past 4 years Rocori has placed in the top 3 teams of the tournament twice.

ROCORI Wrestling 2008 * Coach's Preseason Update

The ROCORI Spartans wrestling team took to the mat last week as they prepare for the 2008-2009 season. The team is filled with players that have varsity experience, and head coach Paul Court believes that their experience could translate into success. In this story, Coach Court gives us an inside look at the team and gives insight as to what we might expect to see from the team this season.

ROCORI Wrestlers place 5th at Foley Falcon Duals

The ROCORI Spartan Wrestling team started their season on Saturday, December 6th winning 2 and losing 1 team dual meets to place 5th at the Foley Falcon Duals team tournament at Foley.

The Spartans 1st dual was against Paynesville in which the Spartans lost 47-22. The Spartans recorded wins from Dylan Gertken, Adam Liestman, Caramon Hanson, Ben Wittrock and Jeremiah Dorf in the loss to a good Paynesville team.

The 2nd match of the day the Spartans came out on top 39-32 over Parkers Prairie. Nate Ness recorded a 38 second pin along with pins coming from Dylan Gertken, Adam Liestman, Caramon Hanson and Ben Wittrock. Mike Provo and Alex Weiman recorded wins for Rocori.

The 3rd match of the day was a win against Pierz 45-32. The Spartans had wins from Nate Ness, Dylan Gertken, Adam Liestman, Caramon Hanson, Ben Wittrock, Alex Weiman, Jeremiah Dorf and Kyle Stein to cruise to the victory. Levi Olivier wrestled a great match, but came up just short against a very good Pierz wrestler.

The Spartans had 3 wrestlers who went 3-0 on the day. Dylan Gertken, Caramon Hanson and Ben Wittrock were all undefeated. Nate Ness, Alex Weiman and Jeremiah Dorf were all 2-1 on the day.

Rocori wrestles at St. Cloud Tech Tuesday, December 9, at Sartell on December 11th and are participating in an individual tournament on Saturday December13 at Shakopee. The Spartans 1st home meet is against Apollo on December 18th followed by a Triangular meet against Eden Valley and Becker on December 19th
 at ROCORI.

The ROCORI boys wrestling team was in action Tuesday January 29 against the Sauk Rapids Storm in a tough CLC match-up. The Spartans wrestled hard, but open weight classes really hurt them, as the Storm was able to string together a number of wins. Caramon Hansen and Kyle Lieser won their matches by pin-fall and Chris Braun, a sophomore, wrestled extremely tough against one of the state’s best, Tyler Spiczka. Watch all the highlights of this match as the Spartans wrestled strong until the end.

ROCORI Middle School Wrestling Tournament

On Saturday January 5, ROCORI High School hosted their annual Youth Wrestling Tournament. The Tournament serves as a fund-raiser for the ROCORI wrestling program. This year there was a record 18 schools that participated in the event, and the gymnasium was packed with proud parents. The voice of DigElog ROCORI's Matt Leither couples with Jeron Lieser to tell us more about the event as well as the larger role that wrestling plays in these boys lives.
