The Bette Kuss Benefit campaign

 

Our dear friend, Bette Kuss, longtime resident of Cold Spring, Minnesota; wife to Duane Kuss and mother of high school grads Sam and Lillie Kuss, has been hospitalized in Minneapolis for heart and respiratory failure.

Bette is currently and has been for many years the beloved accompanist at Peace Lutheran Church in Cold Spring. We were deeply saddened when she was first admitted to Abbott Northwestern Heart Hospital in Minneapolis in December. A lung procedure was necessary before surgeons could clear her for Open Heart surgery on December 16. After nearly sixty days in the ICU, she was moved to Regency Hospital in Golden Valley for recovery. She has been a fighter through this long battle.

Many people in Central Minnesota know Bette for her many years of teaching piano and accompanying various church, community, and school concerts and music productions.

Bette’s music history includes Little Falls Middle School where she was a special education teacher from 1979-1992. She enjoyed working with many special needs students over the years. Bette played piano for many school theatre performances and other musical events.

She also shared her musical talents in the community while she was a member of First Lutheran Church.

For the past 25 years Bette has accompanied the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor.

And as mentioned earlier, many people in Cold Spring and Central Minnesota know Bette for her many years of teaching piano and accompanying various church, community, and school concerts and music productions.

While her body is recovering, hospital bills have devastated the Kuss Family finances. Bette’s friends and community are organizing various fund raising efforts to help them recover. In particular, a fund-raising Dinner is in the planning for April 30 at ROCORI High School. As well We hope to plan a musical event later in the Spring. Donations will be used to pay medical expenses not covered by insurance.

Old Glory Run coverage from May 16, 2009

As part of DigElog ROCORI’s extended coverage of the 2nd annual Old Glory Run, we had a chance to catch up with John Swanson, one of the inspirations for the Old Glory Run. Swanson, a 10-year military veteran lost his leg in combat. Humble by nature, he often tries to avoid the spotlight but at the same time understands the importance of sharing his story. Like so many other veterans, he appreciates the efforts of people like Curt and Pam Karls that go the extra mile to help reintegrate returning soldiers back into society.

In this story, Swanson discusses how life has changed for him since the last time we saw him. He also shares how the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) has helped with his medical issues over the past year. For those that are not familiar with the Old Glory Run, all proceeds from the event are donated to the Minnesota Chapter of the D.A.V. This is a must see story, and as the 4th of July approaches it is a great reminder of the sacrifices that others make for our freedom.

Old Glory Run Early Registration Deadline: April 1, 2012

2nd Annual Fabulous Armadillos Fund Raising Concert : March 24, 2012

Tickets are will-call only and will not be mailed out in advance.  Concert goers should bring their receipt to the concert any time after 11:00 a.m. on March 24, 2012 to pick up their tickets.(doors open for concert at 1:00 PM for a 2:30 p.m. show.)   You may also pickup tickets at The First National Bank Of Cold Spring between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 P.M.  M-F.

 

The 2011 concert held at the ROCORI High School auditorium was packed fore the benefit concert that featured "The Fabulous Armadillos".  A croud of over 300 was dancing in their seats as the band played vintage rock n' roll and favorites from the 60's, 70's and 80's.  In this song, "Proud Mary", the version first made famous by Tina Turner, the band has the crowd out of their seats and cheering for more.

ROCORI Area Community Foundation Steering Committee Meeting Wed. Dec. 21, 2011

The RACF Steering Committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting at 8:30 AM on December 21st at the Assumption Court Part Room.  Currently there are twenty-two (22) volunteers on the Steering Committee and they will be receiving a personal email invitation and agenda next Tuesday.   If you would like to be a officially designated volunteer, please use the form below to indicate your interest.  Since this is an open community meeting and space is limited, Steering Committee members will be given priority seating. 
 

The charter RACF Board of Directors will come from members of the Steering Committee and there are still ROCORI area organizations and cities not represented on the Steering Committee.  If you have not completed a Steering Committee Volunteer Application there is still time to do so.  Please complete and return to me before next Tuesday, either by email or fax the completed form to my attention at 320-685-7044.  If you are not sure, do not hesitate to give me a call.
