ROCORI Middle School Student found with gun in school today.

Official Announcement from School Superintendent Scott Staska,

On April 12, 2011, at approximately 9:00 a.m., students reported to the ROCORI Middle School principal that they thought they saw another student with a gun in that student’s locker.  The principal, Cheryl Schmidt, took immediate action with the reporting students and was able to identify the student offender and the locker.  The principal moved directly to the locker and was able to secure the weapon.

The student was immediately secured.  The principal contacted other school and law enforcement officials.  The incident was turned over to law enforcement, through the school resource officer, for investigation.

The risk to others was very brief and ended very quickly. Because of the quick resolution, there was no need for a building lockdown.  School officials were confident the situation was limited and under control.  The situation is not, at this point, a threat to anyone in the middle school building as the student has been taken into protective custody.

The situation is pending investigation.  The School District is confident the police department will thoroughly investigate the full scope of the incident.

New ROCORI Middle School Construction Update: MARCH 2011 Part II

New Middle School Soon Ready for Students

This is the second part of a tour made with ROCORI School Superintendent Scott Staska in early March where he updates us on the New Middle School wing of the construction project.  Featured in this story are the totally completed science rooms for the 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  We also see the special education suite and the flexible learning lab.

The entire New Middle School construction project continues to be at or ahead of schedule with the new commons and lunch room going into service right after Easter in late April, 2011.

2010 Hometown Pride Award Recipient: JANET AASETH

One of this year's 4 Hometown Pride Award recipients was Janet Aaseth.  Janet grew up in Cold Spring and graduated from ROCORI High School, St. Cloud Technical College and Moorhead State, with a degree in Medical Records.  Shand her husband Todd live in Cold Spring and have two children Chad and Sarah who are both in college.  Janet has worked as an Administrative Assistant at Wenner Funeral Homes for 10 years.

Janet has volunteered in many different ways in the community.  She has been an EMT with Cold Spring Fire & Rescue for 14 years and has served as a volunteer "Friendly Presence" at ROCORI HS since 2003.  Since 1996, Janet has participated in many capacities both on and off stage as a member of the Great Northern Theatre Company and is an active member at St. Boniface Church.

Future stories will feature Judy Samuelson and the OLD GLORY RUN cofounders, Pam and Curt Karls.

New ROCORI Middle School Construction Update- Mid August 2010

Final preparations are being made to be ready for classes to begin this fall at ROCORI High School. A number of older high school classrooms were remodeled this summer and will provide new learning opportunities for returning students.  In this story Superintendent Scott Staska brings us up to date on all areas of the construction project from the new Middle School classrooms, to the new kitchen and commons area, to electrical center that will be the new electrical distribution point for the extended campus.

Pre-cast Floors installed @ New ROCORI Middle School

Here's another update on the New Middle School construction project in Cold Spring, Minnesota.  In this story we get to see the pre-cast floors being installed in the science wing of the new Middle school.  Our tour guides Ken and Don also are standing in front of the gym trusses/ bar joists that will be installed in the coming week connecting the walls of the new gym and providing a framework for the gym roof.
