ROCORI Spartans Medal Ceremony

In this story you will see the entire post-game medal ceremony that followed the ROCORI Spartans volleyball match against New London Spicer. Although the Spartans fought hard, they came up just a little bit short and lost the match three games to one. The entire ROCORI community is proud of the girls’ efforts and we would like to acknowledge their successful season. Way to go ladies! 2009 Cold Spring Historian Award *DigElog ROCORI* & Duane Kuss

During the 3rd Annual Membership Meeting of the Cold Spring Area Historical Society this year's HISTORIAN of the Year award was presented to WOW Training/DigElog ROCORI and to Duane Kuss, owner and publisher of DigElog ROCORI.

Bob and Shirley Harris to be Honored by Great Northern Theater Company

The Great Northern Theater Company will be recognizing Bob and Shirley Harris for all of their contributions to the arts in the Land of ROCORI on August 8, 2009 at the GNTC’s 42nd Street performance. The Harris’ were teachers at ROCORI for many years, each of them working in the music department. GNTC was formed in large part because of the Harris’. GNTC would like to encourage the entire ROCORI public to come out to the August 8, 2009 performance of 42nd Street and be a part of ROCORI history as the Harris’ are honored for their wonderful contributions to this community.

ROCORI Cities March Toward "Yellow Ribbon Community"

YELLOW RIBBON COMMUNITIES provide support to Veterans.

The Race toward becoming Minnesota's first Yellow Ribbon Region began a few weeks ago as a part of the 2nd Annual Old Glory Run.  All three cities that make up the land of ROCORI pledged to pursue this designation over the next year.  Rockville, Cold Spring and Richmond joined 6 other central Minnesota communities in publicly announcing their pursuit of the "Yellow Ribbon Communities" program.  Mayors from all 9 cities joined together, as a part of the "Old Glory Run" closing ceremonies, to sign their letters of intent.

In this story you will hear from Larry Lahr, the city administrator of Cold Spring, and you will also hear from Sergeant 1st Class Melanie Nelson as they tell us about what the designation means. Nelson is the public affairs officer for a group called Beyond the Yellow Ribbon. This organization helps returning soldiers reintegrate back into society. Three community volunteers will be recognized for their contribution and service to the community at the 2008 Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Holiday banquet.  This story features one of the recipients, Jan Luthens and the Assumption Community.



Jan Luthens has been the Administrator at Assumption Community since 1999.  She has served on many organizations including the 20/20 Vision Team and the Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce.  Through her inspiration and direction Assumption Community staff have played a significant role in the establishment of the Faith In Action program, the Walk N Wheel trail, the Cold Spring Area Historical Society and a community-wide wellness program.  The Assumption Nursing Home is celebrating its 45th year anniversary this year and will be once again adding and expanding the community with a Memory Loss wing.  Assumption Community includes the Nursing Home established in 1963 under the sponsorship of St. Boniface Parish and the St. Cloud Diocese.  The John Paul Apartments opened in 1980 and the Assumption Court was estabilshed in 1996 with a further expansion in Janaury of 2006.

Laurel and her husband John have two children, Trevor and Tressa and live in Cold Spring.  Laurel works as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at both the Assumption Home and the Albany Nursing Home.  Laurel Theis was chosen this year to recieve the Cold Spring Hometown  Pride Award for her work with the Girl and Boy Scouts program and for her work in the Project ASTRIDE program where special needs people have the opportunity to ride horses.  Laurel was nominated by both Lori Dornburg and Jaci Hommerding.

Tonight, at the 2008 Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Holiday banquet, three community volunteers will be recognized for their contribution and service to the community.  This story features one of the recipients, Delores Hinkemeyer.

Delores has lived in Cold Spring with her husband Merrill for the past 40 years.  They raised their 6 children here and have been an active part of the community all along.  Delores has been actively involved as a Girl Scout leader, a Eucharistic Minister at church, local coordinator of the Red Cross Bloodmobile program, volunteer at the nursing home and a loving child care provider for dozens of Cold Spring-raised kids.  Delores was nominated by Sue Drontle.

He also has dedicated many years to the growth of The St Boniface Church, several local organizations, including the American Legion and the Lions.
