Gluek Brewing Company proudly celebrated 150 years of service by hosting a country music concert that was held in honor of all of our service members in the United States military. Jamie O’Neal, Darryl Worley and Lonestar played for the large crowd that gathered on the north side of the Gluek Distribution Center. This story features footage from Darryl Worley’s soldier ceremony as well as an interview with a newly returned veteran of the Iraq War.

*** 2005 FLASHBACK! *** "Anything Goes" production by Great Northern Theatre Company

It was the last night of the six performance show.  The play "Anything Goes", presented by the Great Northern Theatre Company, had been a big success and DigElogROCORI was there to interview the Director.

Chad Middendorf, a long time Great Northern Theatre Company performer, had his first time in the director's chair with "Anything Goes".  "The greatest thing that happened is the cast members who came to try out for the show.  We had so many talented and skilled people who auditioned.  When I saw the 75 talented individuals gathered for a total of 55 parts in the play, I knew we were going to have a great show."

Although the talent was the key element for Middendorf to put together a great performing cast, it also created the most difficult part trying to choose between the many gifted candidates. "The hardest part was also the talent that showed up and having to make the tough choices of who would be best in each of the performing roles.  The good and the not so good in my maiden voyage as a director was tackling the difficult  challenge of reducing the group of 75 talented persons down to the final cast of 55." said Middendorf.

"The great thing is when you see the wonderful product everyone is producing on the stage.  Once we were able to harness all this talent, it all came together to successfully produce a very challenging  "Anything Goes" musical.  Not only does the cast do a fantastic job, but all of the support people, those folks you don't see who are behind the scenes, have done such a terrific job keeping everything running smoothly." commented Director Middendorf.

Looking Back: The Dance Group - LITTLE KICKS Perform Tra La La

Earlier this month, ROCORI High School hosted the 16th annual Drumfest and Winterguard performances. Eleven drumlines nine winterguards performed this year. These great shows take many weeks of planning and a team of people to produce them. Organizing this great event takes a remarkable collaborative effort from so many individuals, and those who attended this weekend were treated to a fantastic show. In this story, we feature a full length performance from the ROCORI Just For Kicks Dance Studio. The Little Kicks performed Tra La La during the Winterguard intermission, and they were absolutely delightful. Please enjoy this delightful performance!

REMEMBER WHEN - ****Rockfest Pageant**** July 2nd, 2007

 

Rockville kicked off its summer festival, Rock-Fest by holding their annual pageant. The pageant was considered to be a success, but members of the Rock-Fest committee are always encouraging more participation in both the pageant and any volunteer work leading up to the festival. This story features highlights from the pageant as well as an interview with pageant coordinator Peggy Adamson.

GNTC hits the bullseye with Vicki Meyer directing our community theatre’s summer musical Annie Get Your Gun.  Vicki Meyer has been with GNTC since it's conception and directed not only the first play and first musical but 9 other GNTC shows.  “I'm so impressed with the whole cast,” she enthused.  “The leads are exceptional.  David Stoner and I have worked together on stage for two productions (South Pacific and Oklahoma) and I've also directed him in 2 other shows.  He's got the voice of an angel and really has the character of Frank Butler down to the T.  It's an honor for all of us to be working with him again.”  

Kristen Loecken is new to GNTC and played the role of Annie Oakley this spring at Albany High School.  “She's doing a great job reprising this role and her energy and enthusiasm has been refreshing.  It's also a privilege to be working with veteran GNTC cast and crew members Kelly Davis, Chris Groth, Brad Busse, Marv Rothstein, Ron Woods, Leigh Ann Davis, Janet Aaseth, Tim Jarnot, and having Craig Kimmerle at the piano.  The GNTC family is ready to give the area a phenomenal show.”  

The newly air-conditioned Glanville Smith Auditorium will see GNTC in it’s 22nd summer present Annie Get Your Gun directed by Vicki Meyer. The toe-tapping music of Irving Berlin will have 6 evening performances August 9-11th and August 15-17th at 7:30pm and one matinee on Sunday, August 12th at 2pm. 

The box-office at Rocori High School is now open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm for you to purchase your tickets in person. A Community Mural Project In Cold Spring

An Honors Thesis Project by Shannon McEvoy, Art and Hispanic Studies Double Major at the College of Saint Benedict, in partnership with Casa Guadalupe Multicultural Community (CGMC).  The mural takes a multicultural perspective on the history of Cold Spring and hopes for the future.  It will be on the Cleaning Center’s west-facing wall, courtesy of business owner Dan Kippley.  The painting is taking place throughout August into the beginning of September.  Anyone age 10 or older is invited to come paint!  To sign up to paint and learn more about how you can help, contact Shannon at (952)807-6702, email: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> or CGMC at (320)685-3949.

Stores in Cold Spring, Minnesota that have changed:

When we first moved to Cold Spring in 1968, Fox Drug was located where the Cold Spring Laundrymat is now.  Where a new Drug Store or Pharmacy will be in the near future is a topic I'll relate to another time.

Smitty's Service was on the corner of RedRiver and HWY 23 and now is the home of SuperAmerica.
Smitty's was one I could count on to get me started in cold weather, because I had AAA.  He was good at fixing things on my usually old and failing cars.

Another long standing building and business was Peter's Food Market and
later to become Vogt's Food Market.
the approximate location of Peter's is
now home to Teal's Grocery Store.

The interesting fact to me is that in each case where former owners move on or retire, that business stays in the same retail
business.

I think that speaks well for the community support of these businesses and that their
loyalty to them keeps the business right in Cold Spring and its surrounding rural area.


TRIVIA-  A German fighter pilot managed to survive falling to the ground from his airplane in the middle of a gigantic hail-
storm.  He was coated in a layer of ice which
