Here's a final tour of the new cafeteria and commons area before it is open to students beginning the week after Easter, 2011.  Scott Staska, ROCORI superintendent, gives us a first had look at how the entire food cooking, warming and distribution will work in the new space.  We'll also get an update on the gym, locker rooms, hall of fame and the new district office.

The awards ceremony will take place after the 1K Kids Fun Run at approximately 11:30 am. There will be activities for the kids and refreshments for everyone. 9:45 am - Opening Ceremonies     The opening cermony will consist of welcoming all runners, spectators and volunteers brief description of the activities and times Move 5K participants to the starting line National Anthem 10:00 am - 5K Race Start 11:00 am - 1K Race Start 11:30 am - Awards Ceremony Move participants, spectators and volunteers to the stands Give awards for the 5K and 1K events 11:45 am - Closing Ceremony A special closing ceremony is planned involving all veterans, active duty military, Reservists and National Guard members. ROCORI Middle School Student found with gun in school today.

Official Announcement from School Superintendent Scott Staska,

On April 12, 2011, at approximately 9:00 a.m., students reported to the ROCORI Middle School principal that they thought they saw another student with a gun in that student’s locker.  The principal, Cheryl Schmidt, took immediate action with the reporting students and was able to identify the student offender and the locker.  The principal moved directly to the locker and was able to secure the weapon.

The student was immediately secured.  The principal contacted other school and law enforcement officials.  The incident was turned over to law enforcement, through the school resource officer, for investigation.

The risk to others was very brief and ended very quickly. Because of the quick resolution, there was no need for a building lockdown.  School officials were confident the situation was limited and under control.  The situation is not, at this point, a threat to anyone in the middle school building as the student has been taken into protective custody.

The situation is pending investigation.  The School District is confident the police department will thoroughly investigate the full scope of the incident.

New Middle School Soon Ready for Students

This is the second part of a tour made with ROCORI School Superintendent Scott Staska in early March where he updates us on the New Middle School wing of the construction project.  Featured in this story are the totally completed science rooms for the 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  We also see the special education suite and the flexible learning lab.

The entire New Middle School construction project continues to be at or ahead of schedule with the new commons and lunch room going into service right after Easter in late April, 2011.
