Construction of the New ROCORI Middle School and High School remodeling continues in earnest.  Tonight public tours of parts of the constructin site will be conducted to give the general public a first hand look at the progress up to now.  Tours begin at 4:00 pm with the last tour scheduled for 7:00 pm.  Guided tours will last about 30-45 minutes and will take place throughout the evening.

The tours will go through areas of the new middle school space and some of the high school's new north addition.  Anyone interested in participating in one of the tours should meet in the High School cafeteria for some introductory comments and then will be guided by a district staff member or volunteer.

2010 ROCORI PowderPuff Football Game

This year the scene was on the Spartan football field and under the big lights.  The ROCORI lady seniors went up against this year's junior class.  It was flag football at its finest and the competition was fierce.  These ladies enjoy playing the game rough and tough.  Check out the action and major highlights.

Happy Thanksgiving! An inspiring video and some interesting facts.

Here’s something that can help you begin this day in the true spirit of the holiday — an inspiring 5-minute video by Brother David Steindl-Rast, “A Good Day”:

 Did you know:

• Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States.
• The first Thanksgiving Day was celebrated in the fall of 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
• The Pilgrim leader, Governor William Brandford, organized the first Thanksgiving feast in the year 1621 and invited the neighboring Wampanoag Indians, who taught the Pilgrims how to cultivate the land, also to the feast.
• The first Thanksgiving celebration lasted three days.
• President George Washington issued the first national Thanksgiving Day Proclamation in the year 1789 and again in 1795.
• The state of New York officially made Thanksgiving Day an annual custom in 1817.
• Sarah Josepha Hale, an editor with a magazine, started a Thanksgiving campaign in 1827 and it was as a result of her efforts that in 1863 Thanksgiving was observed as a day of national thanksgiving and prayer.
• Abraham Lincoln issued a Thanksgiving Proclamation on the third of October 1863 and officially set aside the last Thursday of November as the national day for Thanksgiving.  Whereas, earlier the presidents used to make an annual proclamation to specify the day when Thanksgiving was to be held.
• President Franklin D. Roosevelt restored the Thursday before last of November as Thanksgiving Day in the year 1939.  he did so to make the Christmas shopping season longer and thus stimulate the economy of the state.
• Congress passed an official proclamation in 1941 and declared that now onwards Thanksgiving would be observed as a legal holiday on the fourth Thursday of November every year.
• Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird of the United States, but Thomas Jefferson opposed him.  It is believed that Franklin then named the male turkey as "tom" to spite Jefferson.
• The annual Macy's Thankgiving Day Parade tradition began in the 1920s.
• Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States.

Republicans take over US House and both Minnesota House and Senate

 

Governor race between Dayton and Emmer has Dayton still leading by slim margin.
2:51 PM  Wednesday, Dayton leads Emmer by 8,855 votes with 100% of the precincts reporting.
Based on the 1.8 million votes cast, this most likely will trigger an automatic statewide recount.
