Heading into their match against the Alexandria Cardinals, the ROCORI Spartans volleyball team knew that earning a win would not be easy. They knew that it would take a tremendous effort, and that everybody would need to chip in for a chance at victory. Not only was the effort there against the Cardinals, but also every player on the court played great.
Trailing 23-19 late in game one, the Spartans sent Kelsey Stommes to serve. ROCORI hadn’t managed to hold a lead the entire game, but Stommes was determined to put the Spartans on top. Not only did ROCORI take the lead, they went on to score the next six points and steal game one away after trailing by as many as 10 points! Game two Alexandria made some defensive adjustments at the net and really began to block ROCORI’s spikes. ROCORI was unable to recapture the comeback magic in games two and three.
Knotted up at 17-17 in game four, ROCORI began relying heavily on Jordan Hansen and Briana Traut at the net. A couple of critical bounces went the Spartans way in game four and they managed to earn a close victory and force a fifth game. Falling behind quickly by five in the final game, ROCORI clawed back to within one point a number of times, but could never get over the hump. Alexandria pulled away and finished off an electrifying match against ROCORI. Both teams played phenomenally and DigElog ROCORI looks forward to covering their playoff runs later this season.
