Fergus Falls, Minnesota
Coming off a tough loss to the Sauk Rapids Storm, ROCORI was faced with the difficult task of traveling to Fergus Falls. Although Fergus Falls graduated many of their key athletes, the long bus ride and hostile crowd is never easy to overcome.
In the first half, both teams moved the ball between the twenties, but were unable to finish off their drives. The ROCORI defense came up with a couple of key stops when they needed to, and the two sides were knotted at zeros at the half.
Slowly but surely the Spartans offense gained momentum in the second half. Derek Lieser led an impressive 94-yard touchdown drive as he made plays with his arm and his legs. He capped off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to put the Spartans up 7-0. Lieser hooked up with Nathan Meyer for a 60-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and ROCORI was able to hang on for the 13-7 victory on the road. The Spartans will take on the Alexandria Cardinals next in their 2009 Homecoming Game! Be sure to stay tuned to DigElog ROCORI for all of your Spartans Homecoming coverage.
