Last Friday ROCORI traveled to St. Cloud Apollo to open up the 2009 football season under new head coach Mike Rowe. The Spartans have gone through three different coaches over the last three seasons, but for the last two, they have relied heavily on Nick Schneider and the running game.
From the opening possession the Spartans new-look spread offense was precise, efficient, and explosive. Starting quarterback Derek Lieser showed poise and great athleticism as he led the Spartans on three scoring drives in the first half. The defense looked shaky at times, especially considering that everybody in the stadium knew where the ball was going on almost every play. Chris Rocheleau led a relatively weak Apollo offense with 42 carries for 187 yards, but for the most part the Spartans had to be pleased with their efforts. Way to go Spartans. Jimmy's Pizza Player of the Week

Jimmy's Pizza is proud to recognize Derek Lieser as the Spartans Player of the Week. Lieser was incredibly accurate throwing the football in the Spartans win over the Eagles. He went 14-17 for 279 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 15 times for 70 yards and added a pair of rushing scores.
