After splitting their first two regional playoff games in Coon Rapids, the Springers sent Zach Femrite to the mound to take on the hometown Redbirds. Although there were some questionable calls by the umpiring crew that hurt Cold Spring, the Springers still managed to score a run in three different innings. However, in the bottom of the ninth inning, Femrite lost control of his fastball and loaded the bases. Rain was likely a factor, but the umps were forced to let play continue because there was still another game to be played between the winner and Sauk Rapids. The Springers called on Chad Willenbring to come in and get the save, and Willenbring was up to the task. He induced a ground out and two pop flies and the Springers held on for a 3-2 win. The Springers will play next on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Gaylord, MN against Blaine. Check their website for more details.
