Tourney time
Starting today, state champions from Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota will converge at the Waite Park Baseball Complex. Starting with a picnic and skills competition on Wednesday, teams will begin tournament play at 1 p.m. Thursday. The championship game will be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The winner of the regional tournament will advance to the Cal Ripken 12-year-old World Series in Winchester, Mass.
Waite Park will open tournament play against Grand Forks Blue — the North Dakota state champions. The two teams are familiar with one another, playing five times in the last two years, including a Grand Forks Blue win in the first round of last year’s regional tournament.
