ROCORI Cities March Toward "Yellow Ribbon Community" Part Two

YELLOW RIBBON COMMUNITIES provide support to Veterans.

The Race toward becoming Minnesota's first Yellow Ribbon Region began a few weeks ago as a part of the 2nd Annual Old Glory Run.  All three cities that make up the land of ROCORI pledged to pursue this designation over the next year.  Rockville, Cold Spring and Richmond joined six other central Minnesota communities in publicly announcing their pursuit of the "Yellow Ribbon Communities" program.  Mayors from all nine cities joined together, as a part of the "Old Glory Run" closing ceremonies, to sign their letters of intent.

In this story, you'll see footage from the Yellow Ribbon Ceremony, held at Cold Spring Ballpark. Sartell Mayor Tim O'Driscoll addresses the crowd before the nine mayors from Central Minnesota sign their "Yellow Ribbon Pledges." After the papers were all signed, O'Driscoll handed off the microphone to Major General, Larry W. Shellito from the Minnesota Army National Guard. YELLOW RIBBON COMMUNITIES provide support to Veterans.

In this story you will hear from Larry Lahr, the city administrator of Cold Spring, and you will also hear from Sergeant 1st Class Melanie Nelson as they tell us about what the designation means. Nelson is the public affairs officer for a group called Beyond the Yellow Ribbon. This organization helps returning soldiers reintegrate back into society.  Age 82

Cold Spring, formerly of Mounds View

March 16, 1927 – June 16, 2009

Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 8211 Red Oaks Drive, Mounds View, MN for Dorothy A. Anderson, age 82, who died Tuesday at St. Benedict’s Center, St. Cloud. Burial will be at a later date, in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, MN.

26th Annual Heart of MN Fishing Tournament

This past weekend marked the 26th year of the Heart of MN Fishing Tournament. In this story, you’ll see a blend of video footage, interviews with the director of the tournament as well as participants, and still photos from the event. The Heart of MN Fishing Tournament is a great family-friendly event that serves as a fundraiser for the Richmond Civic and Commerce Committee. More importantly, it gives all of us a reason to get out on the Chain of Lakes and enjoy some great fishing. This year participants could not have asked for better weather. Congratulations to all of the winners and we’ll see you next year at the 27th Annual Heart of MN Fishing Tournament.

ROCORI Loses to Staples-Motley in Final Game of Season

The ROCORI Spartans’ baseball season came to an end Monday June 1, 2009, but not before a valiant effort against Staples-Motley. Scott Schroeder pitched brilliantly for the Spartans, but ROCORI could not muster any offense. In the final inning of their season, Shane Rausch knocked a single down the left field line. As he attempted to gain second base, the Cardinals shortstop grabbed the ball in left field, spun, and threw a bullet to second base as Rausch slid in to second. While our replay is not 100% conclusive, it appears Rausch beat the tag. Nevertheless, Rausch was called out and the Spartans rally was cut short in the 7th inning as they lost to Staples-Motley 2-1. Watch the highlights of this game and you make the call as to whether he beat the tag or not.

Heart Of MN Fishing Tournament

The last entry's were being posted today at the 26th Annual Heart of MN Fishing Tournament. Over $7000 was in the pot for the winners.

2nd Annual Special Olympics Gold Tourney

Daniele Liebl (center) and her special golf friends head out to participate in today's "best ball" tournament. This is the second year Daniele has spearheaded the fund raising event for the local Special Olympics organization.
