So similar to yesterday, today we visited FrogTown Park in Cold Spring and found the Sauk River is still rising. One home that connects to the park is now surrounded on 3 sides by water. The ducks are really enjoying the volleyball court.

The snow melt and the recent rains have placed extreme pressure on the Sauk River watershed that carries water from Alexandria, MN all the way to the Mississippi in Sauk Rapids, MN, close to a hundred mile journey of accumulated run-off. The Sauk River will crest sometime later this week at a level most likely higher than its been for 8 years or more.
This story shows the water flowing across the dam in Cold Spring and it also features an interview with Paul Paul Hoeschen (Public Works Director) as he prepares for the Sauk River rising in the Frogtown Park area of Cold Spring. Hoeschen cautions homeowners who are pumping rain water into the cities sewer system.

The ROCORI Spartans opened up the 2009 playoffs with a home game against the Detroit Lakes Lakers. The Spartans jumped out to a double-digit lead over the Lakers, despite getting into foul trouble early and never looked back. ROCORI did a great job of spreading the ball around and every player that logged minutes contributed offensively. Scott Willenbring led the way for the Spartans as they took a 13 point lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF
ROCORI opened up the second half with a 13-point lead and although the Lakers attempted to climb back into the game, ROCORI quickly shut the door on any hopes of a comeback. At one point Detroit Lakes was within seven points, however Brett Eisenschenk knocked down a three for the Spartans and ROCORI was on their way to a comfortable victory. The Spartans also had a nice offensive game from junior point guard Zach Hinkemeyer who showed a nice ability to get into the lane and find his shot.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cold Spring, MN for Bonnie Filiatrault, age 57, who died Sunday.
On April 7th, 2009 ROCORI citizens will be asked to vote on the Middle School Referendum proposal. In the past, ROCORI has voted no to spend money on building a new facility as they opted for “band-aid” fixes that would solve facility issues for only a short amount of time. In this story, you’ll hear from Barry Venable, a concerned parent of children in the ROCORI district. Venable has also been involved with the Middle School task force, and he has co-authored the Middle School Referendum articles that have appeared in the Cold Spring Record. He does a wonderful job explaining how even if you don’t have children in the district, it is still important that the young middle school students still get your vote to help fix their facility. So please, come on out and support the youth of ROCORI on April 7th. They need your help.
