Richmond

April 27, 1921 – January 31, 2009

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Clarence H. “Tiny” Gertken, age 87, who died Saturday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.  Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m.  Richmond American Legion Post #292 will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Knights of Columbus Tuesday evening at the Wenner Funeral Home.

Chamber Welcomes New Staff Member

There's a new face at the Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce lately. Jane Trombley joined the staff during December, replacing the previous Administrative Assistant Michelle Nyberg. Jane and her husband Dave moved to Cold Spring 3 years ago. Her office hours at the Chamber office in Cold Spring are Monday, Wednesday & Thursday. Stop by and introduce yourself. She'll be happy to meet you.

Age 75

Cold Spring

January 4, 1934 – January 28, 2009

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Eric H. Vogt, age 75, who died Wednesday at his home from heart failure. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Cold Spring Area Maennerchor Guest Director

Each week on Wednesday evenings, the Cold Spring Area comes together to practice at the Rocori High School choir room. Tonight, the group had a guest director from St Cloud lead them. Jodi Martinson, choir director at Holy Spirit parish filled in for Maennerchor Director Tim Jarnot.  Martinson worked with the men on the songs they'll sing at the Big Sing in Eagan, Mn later this spring.

Fun-time @ Soup & Chili Bowl 2009

The third annual Jaycees Soup and Chili Bowl was held on Saturday January 24, 2009 at the Cold Spring Brewing Distribution Center. Over 1800 people came through the doors on the blistery evening, and those who attended got a chance to sample some of Minnesota’s best soups and chilis. Profits from the event will go toward the ROCORI Trail project. Those who attended contributed over $500 in cash as well as donations totaling to over 1,200 pounds of food for our local food shelf. Altogether the event was an astounding success. Hats off to the Jaycees and all that helped to make this event possible. See you next year at the 4th annual Soup and Chili Bowl.

The ROCORI Spartans took the court in an evenly matched CLC game against the Alexandria Cardinals. The Spartans got off to a hot start by crashing the offensive boards as well as hitting some timely three-point shots. Alexandria also relied heavily on their three-point shooting, but they could not keep up with the balanced attack of ROCORI.

SECOND HALF

The Spartans took a small lead into the second half and never looked back as they defeated the Cardinals 64 – 45. It has been an up and down year for the Spartans, but hopefully they can continue to work hard and make a strong push into the playoffs.
