In this week’s version of the city update, our two city administrators from Rockville and Cold Spring tell us a little bit about what is going on in each city. Rena Weber tells us about Santa Day in Rockville. She also tells us about an important council position that has been filled. Larry Lahr gives us an update regarding the vacant land where the Granite Company used to be located. For more information on these topics, contact your local city hall. Our coverage in Richmond this week focused on Mayor Elect, James Hemmesch. Mr. Hemmesch was gracious enough to sit down with us and answer a few questions. Three Chosen For HOMETOWN PRIDE AWARD

Last week, we had a chance to catch up with the Girls Hockey team as they prepared to kickoff the 2008 season. In this story, you’ll hear from head coach Kirby St. John as he gives us a preview to the season. Since we recorded this interview, the team has won their first two games. ROCORI Varsity Volleyball 2nd Place Medals Ceremony

As part DigElog ROCORI’s exclusive coverage of the 2008 ROCORI girl’s volleyball team, we are broadcasting the entire medal ceremony from their section finals match-up against St. Cloud Cathedral. The team put together a great season, but they just fell short of making the state tournament. Dolores Hansen * OBITUARY

Age 75

Rockville

March 11, 1933 – November 21, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2008 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for Dolores Hansen, age 75, who died on Friday surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Rockville.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  The Christian Women will pray a rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening.  Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the church in Rockville.

The 2008 Girls Volleyball season came to an end last week as the team took on St. Cloud Cathedral in the section finals. Cathedral always puts together a talented team full of tall, athletic girls and this year was no different. ROCORI fell behind two games to nothing as they lost 25-21 and 25-15. In game three, the Spartans came out strong and never slowed down. The girls won game three 25 - 13, but were unable to come back from the 2-0 deficit. They went on to lose game three and the match. The ROCORI Spartans graduated a great group of seniors that put together a magical 2008 season. Although they were not able to make it to the state tournament, the team still made ROCORI proud.

Voters once again have said a resounding “NO” to giving our school system more money. We can’t say we were too surprised when we consider the fact that this isn’t the first time. We’ve been asked several times “what do they (the voters) want?”

The obvious answer is “no more taxes”.

Another question that’s been repeated to us is “what went wrong?”

Ervin J. Skaja  (Obituary) (11/19/05)

May 12, 1927 - November 19, 2005

Saturday, November 19th, 2005 marks the passing of Ervin John Skaja. Erv resided in Rockville with his wife of 58 loving years, Marie. He will be remembered as a man with a tremendously big heart and a passion for accordion playing, cards, joke telling and life.

Creating a Charter for COMPASSION

By recognizing that the Golden Rule is fundamental to all world religions, the Charter for Compassion can inspire people to think differently about religion. This Charter is being created in a collaborative project by people from all over the world. It will be completed in 2009.

The Charter for Compassion is a collaborative effort to build a peaceful and harmonious global community. Bringing together the voices of people from all religions, the Charter seeks to remind the world that while all faiths are not the same, they all share the core principle of compassion and the Golden Rule. The Charter will change the tenor of the conversation around religion. It will be a clarion call to the world.

Over the next months this site will be open for the world to contribute to Charter for Compassion. Using innovative group decision-making software, people of all faiths, from all across the globe, will contribute their words and stories on a website designed specifically for the Charter. A Council of Sages, made up of religious thinkers and leaders, will craft the world’s words into the final version of the Charter. The document will not only speak to the core ideas of compassion but will also address the actions all segments of society can take to bring these ideas into the world more fully. The Charter for Compassion will then be signed by religious leaders of all faiths at a large launch event, followed by a series of other events to publicize and promote the Charter around the world.
