In this edition of the ROCORI Update, Rena Weber tells us about various construction projects that are going on in the city of Rockville. Later this month, there will be informational meetings that are open to the public regarding County Road 138. As many Rockville citizens know, there are also a couple of projects taking place on Broadway St. that will be continuing through the summer, one of which is the completion of the ROCORI Trail.

Cold Spring City Administrator Larry Lahr reminds us that it’s not too early to pick up your tickets for the Hometown Pride Days Concert. Tickets are $25 and the proceeds are going toward helping the Cold Spring Fire Department purchase a new truck. The concert will be held at the Gluek (Cold Spring Brewery) Distribution Center. Richmond City Administrator Dan Coughlin has two important announcements for the citizens of Richmond. The first announcement is in regards to the annual Richmond Bike Rodeo. This year it will be on June 4th at Richmond Civic Arena from 5- 6pm. There will be numerous activities as well as safety demonstrations that the kids and parents can enjoy. Now that spring is here, Richmond citizens are also asked to please take care of any items on their property that may not supposed to be there. City Administrator Coughlin reminds us that the city does not want to issue citations for nuisance violations, but will do so if necessary.

Walk N Wheel Trail Begins with Brewery Creek

This story is about the start of the Walk N Wheel Trail that will be constructed this summer around Assumption Campus and along Brewery Creek in Cold Spring.  This story introduces the work starting this spring to restore the natural environment along Brewery Creek as a part of a special Mn DNR grant.  Erik Burr, director of environmental services at Assumption home, joins Greg Berg with the Stearn's County Soil and Water District to discuss this important project for the community and ROCORI area.

St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Wayne Schreifels,  
age 42, who died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Inurnment will  
be at a later date. Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday (TODAY) and from
9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.   
Catholic Aid Association will pray a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and Parish  
Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m.

ROCORI Varsity Baseball vs St.Cloud Apollo

The ROCORI Varsity Baseball team was in action at St Cloud Apollo to take on the Eagles in a double-header. The nightcap was supposed to feature two of Central Minnesota’s best pitchers, but it was in the first game that the drama unfolded between two dominating pitchers. The Spartan’s were only able to muster two hits, both by Cory Wenz. However, Scott Schroeder was brilliant on the mound, as he pitched a shutout for the Spartans. Old Glory Run *** Saturday, May 17, 2008

In this story you’ll hear from Curt Karls about an event that is taking place Saturday May 17, 2008 in Cold Spring that will pay tribute to those involved in the Armed Services. The festivities start early in the morning at Springer Park and will continue on past the race.

It's our chance to thank those who have and are serving America and providing freedom around the world. Our goal is to line the race route with "flag-waving" Americans cheering on the runners...especially the soldiers and veterans who are running.

Come early to participate in the opening ceremonies, followed by a 5K Run/Walk and 1K Kids Fun Run. Make sure to join us at the finish line as well to enjoy music and lunch. This will be a fun-filled day with activities for the entire family. Proceeds from this patriotic event will benefit our Disabled American Veterans. Donations will also be accepted on the day of the race.

CEREMONIES                   

The awards ceremony will take place after the 1K Kids Fun Run at approximately 11:30 am. There will be activities for the kids and refreshments for everyone.

         

9:45 am - Opening Ceremonies              

 The opening cermony will consist of                  

• welcoming all runners, spectators and volunteers.
• brief description of the activities and times
• National Anthem
• Move 5K participants to the starting line.   

         

10:00 am - 5K Race Start

    

11:00 am - 1K Race Start

         

11:30 am - Awards Ceremony

         

• Move participants, spectators and volunteers to the stands
• Give awards for the 5K and 1K events

         

11:45 am - Closing Ceremony 

         

A special closing ceremony is planned involving all veterans, active duty military, Reservists and National Guard members.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2008 at
Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pearl Lake, MN for Leander Matthew Wicker,
age 92, who died Sunday at his home.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery. 
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday
and from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Holy Cross Church, Pearl Lake.  The
Cold Spring Area Maennerchor will sing at 6:00 p.m. and Parish Prayers
will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary the Knights of Columbus and Catholic
Aid Association at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. Arrangements were
entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.
