Cold Spring

November 8, 1967 – January 22, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at
St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Kristine Ann
Cunningham Rose, age 40, who died at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Burial will be at a later date.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wenner
Funeral Home in Cold Spring and Friday morning one hour prior to the
service in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church in Cold Spring.  Parish
prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

ROCORI Entrepreneurship Presentation Part One

This story features a presentation by the ROCORI Entrepreneurship Class of 2007-2008 at the Cold Spring Chamber of Commerce meeting. Giving presentations at this event were Kyle Ratke, Abby Hiltner, Brianna Haus, and Mike Hagstrom.

Entrepreneurship was started in 1996 at ROCORI High School. An Industrial Tech teacher by the name of Jerry Larson came up with the idea. Twenty–eight students were part of the first year of the class. Those twenty–eight students created thirteen businesses ranging from scrunchies to candles to folding tables.

During the first ten years of entrepreneurship, the class ran a class business, or in other words a thirty person partnership. The class businesses ranged from creating tables, futons, lawn swings, to their most successful product, sling back rockers.

Since 2004 the class has run just four terms during the year. There is no longer a class business, just the student created businesses. Until this year entrepreneurship ran the Spart N' Mart before and during school. Now the Spart N' Mart is only open after school. Spart N' Mart funds are going back in for the form of scholarships to the entrepreneurship students.

River Lakes Stars vs Sartell-Sauk Rapids/Rice girls hockey

The River Lakes girls hockey team traveled to Sartell to take on one of their conference rivals. The Sartell-Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm'n Sabres and the River Lakes Stars were in a 0-0 tie after the first period. That, however, was not a sight of things to come. The second period saw 6 combined goals in under five minutes. It was a great game and it came down to the last couple of minutes. Watch to see how this nail-biter ended.

Meet the COLD SPRING MAENNERCHOR 2008

In this story, Tim Jarnot, director of the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor, gives us a quick review of what's happening with the group during the first part of 2008.  The Maennerchor practices every Wednesday evening at the ROCORI High School choir room.  New members are always welcome and if you're interested just give a call to Duane Kuss @ 320.685.8603.

Since 1981, the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor (Maennerchor means "Men's Chorus" in German) has been a member of the Associated Male Choruses of America (AMCA) which is a national organization of male choruses.  The Maennerchor is a part of the Upper Midwest District of the AMCA involving choirs from such places as Rochester, MN; Eau Claire, WI; Jamestown, ND; Grand Rapids, MN and many other cites.

Each year a different choir plays host to this weekend long event including a variety of activities for the choirs, their members and their wives. The culmination of the weekend is the joint "BIG SING" concert held Saturday night open to the public.  In 2007 the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor sponsored this esteemed event for the first time and was honored to bring it to the people of central Minnesota.

The BIG SING concert included many chorus numbers sung by the massed group and several solo numbers by select choirs.  A special attraction this year was a selection sung by a festival choir comprised of a few members from each representative choir.  The grand finale of the evening included the singing of the "Hallelujah Chorus" by F. Handel, accompanied by the magnificent St. John's Abbey pipe organ.

In 2008 the Maennerchor will be attending the Big Sing held in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  Their host choir will be the Eau Claire Male Chorus.  Other major performances during the coming year include a "Mini Sing" in Wisconsin the the Clark County Male Chorus and the Maennerchor's Annual Dinner & Song nights that will be held at the Great Blue Heron Restaurant.

The ROCORI Spartans girls basketball team was in action against the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm. The Spartans came in with the mindset that this would be a defining moment in their season. They came out with that mindset and dominated from start to finish in every aspect of the game. Melanie Hilsgen led the team with 20 points and the Spartans defense was great. The Spartans picked up a huge conference win on the road against the Storm.

Jaycees Chili Event Part Two

It’s back and now is the time to join the fun!  The Cold Spring Jaycees invites the public to enter their soup or chili favorites for the upcoming Soup & Chili Bowl to be held on January 26, 2008 from 5-11 PM at the Gluek Distribution Center.  Contestants will feature their own recipes and condiments for purchase in an exciting, festive atmosphere. The entry fee is free with an opportunity to win great cash prizes in each soup or chili category.  While the contest is taking place, attendees will enjoy the Old Time music of the Peter and Paul Wendinger Band that plays from 5-7:30 PM and the rock and roll sounds of Slip Twister from 8-11 PM.  Contestant space is limited; register today!

It was the last night of the six performance show.  The play "Anything Goes", presented by the Great Northern Theatre Company, had been a big success and DigElogROCORI was there to interview the Director.

This story centers around a noon luncheon meeting of the Cold Spring Area Chamber held on January 10th, 2008.  The featured speakers during the meeting included three long-time insurance professionals:  Tom Graham with State Farm Insurance, Deb Vogt with Omann Insurance Agency and Megan McClure with McClure Insurance Agency. 

All three of these insurance specialists have been long-time Chamber members and have provided insurance services to the community for decades.  Each has a special area of expertise providing a broad range of insurance products for the "Land Of ROCORI".
