River Lakes Boys Hockey vs Sauk Rapids/Rice

This story pits our own River Lakes Stars against the high powered Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm.  In the first period we would once again turn our focus on Stars Goalie Brian Skluzacek. Skluzacek was unbelievable... he kept the game within reach and in the first period held the high powered Storm offense to zero 1st period goals.

The second period was nearly a mirror image of the first. Late in the 2nd period the Storm would strike with a great power play goal. The Stars were penalty killing most of the first 2 periods. At the end of the second period there would be a one goal deficit for the Stars.

In the final period things looked bright for the Stars who were down one. Engquist got a few breakaways and they played a more up tempo game. But after a couple goals... all the comebacks went by the way-side. River Lakes would allow 5 third period goals and lost 6-1.

ROCORI Girls Basketball vs Willmar

It was senior night for the ROCORI girls varsity basketball team and they would play a tremendous first half against their Willmar opponents. Led by senior captain Jesse Gertken, ROCORI would hold their own against a tough Cardinal team. At the end of the half there was only a 4 point difference between the two teams.

The second half of senior night was not so glamorous. It started out good with a couple easy buckets by Jesse Gertken. All of a sudden, the Cardinal girls got hot and started hitting every shot they took. And before long... it was a 20 point lead for Willmar. The Spartans would fight back to a 10 point deficit but that's as close as it would get.

2007 Business & Community Showcase

You're invited to the  2007 Cold Spring Area Business and Commmunity Showcase to be held at ROCORI High School on Saturday, March 17th.  This years event will be bigger and bettter than ever before and is jam packed with exhibits and fun activities for the entire family.

Beginning at 8:00 Saturday morning, the Cold Spring 20/20 Action Team will again hold their Pancake and Sausage Breakfast fund raiser.    The 20/20 group is made up of local volunteers who are  involved with on-going community improvement projects.  The breakfast is a g reat way for the entire family to start your Saturday morning together with some great food.  Exhibitors and guest speakers also apprecate starting their day with good breakfast and hot cup coffee.

After your delicious breakfast in the high school cafeteria, you'll be able to walk across the hall into the gymnasium for the Business and Community Showcase.  close to one hundred businesses and non-profit organizations are expected to exhibit this year.  The group represents products and services from all aspects of our community .  You'll find something for kids young and old alike.    They'll be door prizes, free samples, gift give aways and loads of fun throughout the morning and on into the early afternoon. 

The showcase opens at 9:00 am Saturday morning and continues through 2:00 that afternoon. This event is a great way to learn more about the many business and service organizations who make up our community.  So come join your friends, relative and neighbors for the 2007  Cold Spring Business and Community Showcase on Saturday, March 17th

Age 86

Richmond

April 21, 1920 - February 25, 2007

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Paul J. Blonigen, age 86, who died Sunday at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday (TODAY) and from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond (151 Oakwood Ave. S. E.).  Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Golden Smiles, Catholic Aid Association, Knights of Columbus and St. Josephís Society at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

ROCORI Annual Alumni Basketball Weekend

Last weekend the Annual ROCORI Alumni Basketball tournament was held.  It has become quite a tradition in the Land of ROCORI for players and fans alike.  The two day event is a great way to bring players and their families back together for fellowship and some good old friendly competition.

The oldest team represented this year was from the class of 1977 and the youngest included last year's State Tournament Team of 2006.  Nearly 30 years of Coach Brink inspired basketball is represented during the two-day tournament.  This year's championship game was played between the class of 1999 and the class of 1988.  In the end, for a second year running, the class of 1999 would prove victorious.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Church in Collegeville, MN for Henry Meyer, infant, who died unexpectedly Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the St. Nicholas parish cemetery, St. Nicholas, Minnesota.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Age 92

Richmond

October 11, 1914 - February 23, 2007

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Lidwina Kemper, age 92, who died Friday at the Pine Haven Care Center in Melrose after a long courageous battle with Alzheimerís. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond (151 Oakwood Ave. S.E.). ROCORI Girls Basketball vs Sartell

FIRST HALF

The ROCORI girls basketball team came out on parents night and played their hearts out. They played well against a good Sartell team. Their defense would stifle the Sabres which lead to a number of easy buckets. At the end of the half ROCORI would trail by 5.

The second half of the girls game was exciting. The Spartan girls came out and cut into the lead. Sartell would answer a number of times to build the lead back up. A few steals and quick buckets later, the Spartans were within one. In the end they fell short but what a great game for their parents to enjoy.

Charley's Aunt presented by GNTC

THE PLOT: 

Charley Wyckham (played by Alex Schmitz) and Jack Chesney (Ethan Wittrock) are undergraduates in the late 1800’s at Oxford University.  They need a chaperone so they can entertain their girlfriends Amy Spettigue (Melanie Thelen) and Kitty Verdun (Alexis Keppers). Charley receives word that his Aunt, whom he has never met or spoken to in his life, is coming to visit him. The boys grab this opportunity and send a telegram to Amy & Kitty saying that they are invited for lunch to meet Charley's Aunt, Donna Lucia d’Alvadorez, who is a rich and widowed aunt from Brazil ("where the nuts come from").  Their butler, Brassert (Bob Thelen), has everything set up and all is ready until Charley's Aunt sends a telegram to say that she has been detained on business and not to expect her for a few days. The boys start to panic and persuade their friend, Lord Fancourt Babberly - "Babbs" (Grant Thelen), to masquerade as Charley's Aunt.

As Charley and Jack intend to declare their love to their sweethearts at some convenient point during the lunch appointment, they want Charley's Aunt out of the way, so they invite Jack's unsuspecting father, Frank Chesney (Gary Brinkman), to lunch, but those two do not pair up as planned.   Of course, the real Charley's Aunt, Donna Lucia (Mary Middendorf) arrives unexpectedly with her adopted 'niece' Miss Ela Delahay (Kateri Salk).  They play along with the game and reveal some of their own history and past romances.  When Stephen Spettigue (Amy’s uncle & Kitty’s guardian played by Ron Woods) arrives, he is introduced to the fake Charley’s Aunt and instantly falls in love.  The truth is eventually told, everyone saves face, and all works out properly in the end.

Jack - Ethan Wittrock is a Junior at SCSU studying English and has been in a number of GNTC shows.

Charley - Alex Schmitz is a Junior at Rocori High School and has been in the chorus of several GNTC musicals.

Brasset - Bob Thelen provides a number of financial services thru his firm Wealthcare in Cold Spring and has appeared in a variety of roles including GNTC's first play and first musical. 

Lord Fancort Babberly  "Babbs" - Grant Thelen works at Archway Marketing in the cities and has appeared on stage and in the pit with GNTC.

Mr. Francis Chesney - Gary Brinkman owns Brinky's Liquor in Richmond and was seen in last year's Nunsense production as Howard "Tevye" Liszt.

Amy - Melanie Thelen is studying Economics at St. Ben's and is new to GNTC.

Kitty - Alexis Keppers has been in several GNTC shows and is making her directorial debut with Charley's Aunt. 

Spettigue - Ron Woods is recently retired and has appeared in every GNTC production to date. 

Donna Lucia - Mary Middendorf is the Office Manager for Kraemer Trucking & Excavating and has appeared in many GNTC shows including Sister Hubert in our two Nunsense productions and as Reno Sweeny in Anything Goes.   

Ela - Kateri Salk is a junior at Rocori High School and has been in several GNTC musicals.
