August 16, 1915 - December 22, 2006

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Philomena Theis, age 91, who died Friday at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church.   The Christian Women, Cold Spring Legion and VFW Auxiliaries will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 7:30 p.m. Wed. evening at the funeral home.

A Fabulous "FREE" Christmas Concert (12/19/05)

Here's one of those Little gems that come around every once in a while that you and your entire family will enjoy.  On Tuesday, December 20th, at 7:30 pm, a "FREE" Christmas Concert will be held at the Historic Old Salem Church (formerly E.U.B.) just 4 miles north of Paynesville.

The concert will feature the nationally renowned concert pianist and recording artist Mary Beth Carlson.  ARTISTS WEBSITE Appearing with Carlson will be cellist Diane Tremaine, Mark Henderson - woodwind and Nikki Allen, an outstanding soprano soloist from the University of Minnesota.  Also, a special guest appearance will be made by the Paynesville High School mixed choir directed by Sheryl Burgum.

Peter N. Heinen, age 72

Richmond

June 19, 1933 - December 22, 2005

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Peter N. Heinen, age 72, who died Thursday at the Saint Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in parish cemetery.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by the Richmond Golden Smiles and the Richmond American Legion will pray at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening.

A Family Tradition "CUTTING OUR OWN TREE" (12/24/05)

Each year, just a week or two before Christmas, our family jumps in the van and heads out to cut our own Christmas tree.  Its a very special family tradition.

This year we brought the video camera along and decided we'd share our experience with you.  Duane, Bette, Samuel and Lillie hope you enjoy this short little story.  There's music, beautiful trees, animals, snow angels and a whole lot more.

There's also a special performance by the Middle School 7th Grade Choir.

Bloodmobile... Rockville Parish Center (12/26/05)

The Bloodmobile will be at Parish Center in Rockville this coming Tuesday, December 27th.  Your donation at this time of great need is very important.

The hurricanes named Katrina and Rita have drastically affected blood collections that would normally occur in these areas of the country.

In the first half the Spartans saw the emergence of a star. Justin Stommes, by himself, tied the Storm scoring. Justin scored 21 1st half points and the Spartans look to be dominate from the very beginning. They would lead after the first half by 18, 39-21.

The second half was the same as the first. Chad Aaseth would pick things up and Aaron Burtzel would contribute through passing and rebounding. The last 5 minutes was dedicated to cleaning off the bench. Once again everyone on the entire squad would play and play well.

Here's a River Lakes Stars Girls hockey battle with the Sartell Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm'n Sabres.  In the 1st period the Stars jump out to a 2 goal lead on nice goals by Kenzie Novak and Megan Bergeson. Tracy Skluzacek was a force in net for the Stars and their defense was relentless.

The second period was almost a mirror image of the first.   The River Lakes Stars girls would get 2 early goals and sit back on their 4 goal lead. Skluzacek in the net would keep the Storm'n Sabres in a 4 goal hole for the entire period.

In the third period the River Lakes defense stepped up to try and maintain the shutout. They wouldn't accomplish the task but they would get the win. Tracy Skluzacek was remarkable in net for the Stars and they got great goals from a number of Stars players.

MAENNERCHOR Christmas Dinner & Song Nights

This year the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor held a Christmas Dinnner & Song concert at River Station in Richmond.  It was an "Old Christmas" theme with all the trimmings.  In this story you'll hear a number of Christmas tunes and you'll also hear from a number of Maennerchor members as to how and why they got involved with the 50 member mens' chorus.

If someone in your family has been involved in youth football, little league baseball, broomball, or Rocori sports; Kurt has been there. River Lakes Boys Hockey vs St. Cloud Apollo

Welcome to the first period between the Stars and the Eagles. It was a very physical, defensive first period. Not alot of shots for either team and no goals. A few good chances and some pressure applied to both goaltenders.

SECOND PERIOD

In the 2nd period the River Lakes Stars find themselves in an early hole. They will allow 2 goals and have to climb out of another deficit. Skluzacek was brilliant in net for the Stars and they would make a 3rd period push.

THIRD PERIOD

The final period was a cliff hanger. The Stars will allow an early 3rd period goal to make it a 3 goal game, but on the back of Alex Naujokas, they climb back into it and make it a 1 goal game. With about 30 second left the Stars were forced to pull their goalie. Could they tie it up in under a minute?
