SPARTANS BEAT EMOTIONAL ODDS AND HEAD TO STATE TOURNAMENT
The ROCORI High School baseball team has won a birth in the 2006 State Tournament. This past week the Spartans came back after being down 1 game to sweep the Little Falls Flyers at their home field, 11 to 3 in the first game, and 14 to 7 in the second game.
Winning the series 2 games to 1, gave the ROCORI Spartans the Section 8AAA Baseball Championship and the chance to play in the State Tournament this coming week.
The Spartans are headed to the state tournament despite losing their head coach, Kurt Langer, who died on May 5th.
“The kids are really playing great baseball right now” said acting head coach Jeff Illies. “They've come together as one dedicating their season to Coach Langer.
“In my eyes these guys are already State Champions. What they have had to live through this season, no one at this age should have to go through. These guys have become heroes in the community after the way they have been able to bounce back from the loss of Coach Langer.”
This is the first visit to the Minnesota High School State Tournament for the Spartans since 1992. ROCORI will play their first game against Apple Valley this coming Thursday, June 15th, 10:00 AM, at Midway Stadium in St. Paul.
The Land of Rocori would like to congratulate the Spartan baseball team for their outstanding season and wishes them the very best at the State Tournament.
