It was another neighborhood battle between two city rivals when St. Cloud Cathedral went up against St. Cloud Apollo. Although Apollo pitchers Evan Toupal and Blake Maslonkowski hold a goose egg for the number of batters walked, in the end the Cathedral Crusaders bats were too much for the Eagles. Cathedral wins this one 4-1 over Apollo.
Waite Park, Minnesota Cal Ripken 12 Year Old State Champs, opened tournament play against Grand Forks Blue — the North Dakota state champions. The two teams are familiar with one another, playing five times in the last two years, including a Grand Forks Blue win in the first round of last year’s regional tournament.

Starting today, state champions from Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota will converge at the Waite Park Baseball Complex. Starting with a picnic and skills competition on Wednesday, teams will begin tournament play at 1 p.m. Thursday. The championship game will be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The winner of the regional tournament will advance to the Cal Ripken 12-year-old World Series in Winchester, Mass.
