In this story you will meet Jon Benson, the head coach of St. Cloud Apollo. Last year the Eagles were a senior-heavy football team so this year many players will receive opportunities to step up and make an immediate impact at the varsity level. DigElog Waite Park would like to thank Coach Benson for offering us access to the team this year and we look forward to covering more St. Cloud Apollo football!

DigElog Waite Park proudly presents our opening day coverage of the 2009 St. Cloud Apollo Eagles football season. Last Friday, the Eagles hosted the ROCORI Spartans. Although St. Cloud only returned five starters from offense and defense, the team still had revenge on their minds. ROCORI came back from a 15-0 deficit to beat Apollo last year in the playoffs. ROCORI came into the game with many question marks as well under a new head coach and quarterback.
However, within the first two drives the Spartans quickly answered any questions people had about their offense. Leading 14-0 after the first quarter ROCORI never looked back and went on to crush the Eagles 35-14. The lone bright spot in the game had to be Apollo’s running game as Chris Rocheleau carried the ball 43 times for 187 yards, and the team combined for 252 rushing yards.
