Mass of Christian Burial
will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in
cold Spring, MN for Vern Humbert, age 82, who died Friday at the Assumption
Nursing Home. Entombment will be
in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and Friends may call
from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in the Narthex of the St. Boniface
Church. Arrangements were
entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
Vern was born in Melrose, MN
to Frank and Angeline (Machtmes) Humbert.
After high school at Crosier and in Melrose, Vern served in the Navy and
went on to graduate from St. Cloud State University and the University of
Minnesota in Education. He married
Phyllis Athmann on September 10, 1949 in St. Mary’s Cathedral in St.
Cloud. The couple had seven
children and lived in the Twin Cities area where Vern was employed by the
Bloomington Schools as a teacher and administrator. They moved to Cold Spring in 1989. Vern loved the outdoors, especially lawn and garden work,
fishing, and traveling. He enjoyed
music and was a member of the Cold Spring Area Meaennerchor, the St. Boniface
Resurrection Choir and he was a lector at church. Vern was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Knights of
Columbus, Catholic Aid Association, Cold Spring American Legion, Crosier
Apostolate, Rocori Senior Center and several education organizations.
Survivors include his loving
wife of 60 years, Phil of Cold Spring; children, Dave (Connie), Mary (Mike)
Payne, Tom (Val), Jim (Ellen), Judy (Dan) Sladek, Joannie (Dennis) Webster, Chris
(Karla); 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
