Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Mike (Melvin) Plantenberg, age 76, who died Sunday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Golden Smiles Senior Citizens, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mike was born in Richmond, MN to Norbert and Veronica (Buerman) Plantenberg. He married Marlene Thielmann on September 25, 1954 in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring.
Mike served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955 and graduated from St. John’s University in 1957. He owned and operated Plantenberg’s Market. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with his family, serving the community and church and was an avid reader. Mike led a giving, humble life of serving and generosity to others.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, and Richmond American Legion.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Marlene; children, Tucker (Patti), Lynn, Susan (Chris) Satterlund, Lisa (Mark) Eiden and Maria; sisters, Judy Martinson and Ruth Taylor; grandchildren, Kendra and Kyle Plantenberg, Jacob and Jon Eiden, and Karl Satterlund.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dolores Lutgen; brother-in-law, George Taylor.
