Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Alphonse “Al” Mehr, age 83, who died Tuesday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday (TODAY) and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Golden Smiles Senior Citizens group on Thursday.
Al was born in St. Martin, MN to Mathias and Elizabeth (Kirchner) Mehr. He married Catherine Schmitz on June 27, 1949 in St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin, MN. Al attended Deforest School of Electronics in Illinois graduating in 1946, received his Master Electrician License in 1957 and was a RCA Electronics Independent Dealer for many years. He was a private pilot for years, attended Master Gardener School, and was an avid bird watcher. In his younger years, Al was a 4-H winner, receiving the Reserve Grand Champion Award. Al was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters, and Richmond Civic and Commerce.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Catherine; children, Joseph (Linda) of St. Cloud, Mary (Tim) Plas of Brooklyn Park, Peter (Kristine) of St. Cloud and Henry (Laura) of Sartell; grandchildren, Melissa, Rebecca, Bradley, Cassondra, Andrew, Bethany, Catherine, Grant, Joy, Renae, Marcus and Anne; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, John of Paynesville and sister, Alice Middendorf of St. Cloud.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Agnes, Frank, Rose, Marcus, Sylvester, Robert and Ruth.
