Lucile E. Hough, age 89, of Ferndale, WA, died on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the home of her daughter and son-in law, Mary Lou and Harry Pardue, with whom she lived. Lucile was a former resident of Paynesville and Cold Spring, Minnesota.
Lucile (Lou) Hough was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on March 7, 1919, to Frank and Mary (Trepanier) Gendron. She was married to Merel G. Hough on August 7, 1943 in Iron Mountain, Michigan. They moved to Minnesota where Merel was a teacher and Principal at Paynesville High School and Rocori High School. Lou was a Merchandise Associate at J. C. Penney Company at Iron Mountain, Michigan, prior to her marriage and some years later resumed that position at St. Cloud, Minnesota, retiring in 1984.
Lou was a member of the Paynesville Hospital Auxiliary, Paynesville Booklovers Club, and a charter and 20 year member of the Cold Spring Lioness Club. She volunteered many hours for school events and programs in both Paynesville and Cold Spring. After moving to Lafayette, Indiana in 1994 to be closer to her daughter, she belonged to the Home Hospital Auxiliary volunteering weekly in the Medical Records Dept. She crocheted countless baby blankets for the hospital's Perinatal Grief Support Program.
Lou moved to Ferndale, WA, in 2004, when her daughter and son-in-law retired there. She enjoyed her family, growing flowers, bird-watching, crocheting, and quilting. Her family has many of her beautiful afghans and quilts as memories.
She was preceded in death by Merel, her husband of 49 years in 1992, her parents, Frank and Mary Gendron, brothers Frank, Joseph, Charles and Albert Gendron, sister Doris Tedeschi, two infant daughters, and son-in-law, Dennis Schultz. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lou Pardue (Harry), grandsons Brian Schultz, Chicago, IL, Michael Schultz, Lafayette, IN, step-grandson Jonathan Pardue (Kris), Sultan WA, great-grandsons Nicholas and Philip Pardue, and great-granddaughter Madisyn Schultz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring, MN at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12. A gathering of family and friends will follow the Mass at the Church. Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring, MN is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lucile's name to the Dollars for Scholars Program at Rocori High School, PO Box 304, Cold Spring. MN 56320, or to a charity of choice.
