Mathias R. “Matt” Koltes

Age 81

Pearl Lake

December 17, 1926 – March 30, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pearl Lake, MN for Mathias R. “Matt” Koltes, age 81, who died Sunday at the Assumption Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring and from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Holy Cross Church in Pearl Lake.  Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Catholic Aid Association, St. John’s Men’s Society of Pearl Lake, Cold Spring Knights of Columbus #5344 and the Kimball American Legion #261 at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.         

Matt was born in St. Joseph Township, MN to Joseph and Mary (Watry) Koltes. He married Rosemary “Rosie” Theisen on May 20, 1950 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pearl Lake, MN.  Matt served in the Unites States Army during World War II.  He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and farmed his whole life.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening, spending time in his orchard, traveling and most of all, his family.   He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Catholic Aid Association, Cold Spring Knights of Columbus #5344, Kimball American Legion #261, St. John’s Men’s Society of Pearl Lake and NARVRE.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rosie; children, Bernie (Karen), Jerry (Linda), Sue (Dave) Gill, Keith (Deb), Marlene (Mark) Goenner, Patty (Ray) Loehlein, Mary (Brian) Gohmann, Audrey (Jim) Gustafson and Bob (Melanie); 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Beckrich and Mary (Meinie) Nies; sister-in-law, Ione Koltes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Samuel; siblings, Theresa, John, Ben, Veronica, Aloysious, Margaret, Ann, Joe and Andrew.

Lucile E. Hough

Age 89

Ferndale, Washington
Formerly of Cold Spring, Minnesota

March 7, 1919 – March 30, 2008

Lucile E. Hough, age 89, of Ferndale, WA, died on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the home of her daughter and son-in law, Mary Lou and Harry Pardue, with whom she lived.  Lucile was a former resident of Paynesville and Cold Spring, Minnesota.

Lucile (Lou) Hough was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on March 7, 1919, to Frank and Mary (Trepanier) Gendron.  She was married to Merel G. Hough on August 7, 1943 in Iron Mountain, Michigan.  They moved to Minnesota where Merel was a teacher and Principal at Paynesville High School and Rocori High School.  Lou was a Merchandise Associate at J. C. Penney Company at Iron Mountain, Michigan, prior to her marriage and some years later resumed that position at St. Cloud, Minnesota, retiring in 1984.

Lou was a member of the Paynesville Hospital Auxiliary, Paynesville Booklovers Club, and a charter  and 20 year member of the Cold Spring Lioness Club.  She volunteered many hours for school events and programs in both Paynesville and Cold Spring. After moving to Lafayette, Indiana in 1994 to be closer to her daughter, she belonged to the Home Hospital Auxiliary volunteering weekly in the Medical Records Dept.  She crocheted countless baby blankets for the hospital's Perinatal Grief Support Program.

Lou moved to Ferndale, WA, in 2004, when her daughter and son-in-law retired there.  She enjoyed her family, growing flowers, bird-watching, crocheting, and quilting.  Her family has many of her beautiful afghans and quilts as memories. 

She was preceded in death by Merel, her husband of 49 years in 1992, her parents, Frank and Mary Gendron, brothers Frank, Joseph, Charles and Albert Gendron, sister Doris Tedeschi, two infant daughters, and son-in-law, Dennis Schultz.  She is survived by her daughter Mary Lou Pardue (Harry), grandsons Brian Schultz, Chicago, IL, Michael Schultz, Lafayette, IN, step-grandson Jonathan Pardue (Kris), Sultan WA, great-grandsons Nicholas and Philip Pardue, and great-granddaughter Madisyn Schultz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring, MN at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12.  A gathering of family and friends will follow the Mass at the Church.  Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring, MN is handling the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lucile's name to the Dollars for Scholars Program at Rocori High School, PO Box 304, Cold Spring. MN 56320, or to a charity of choice.

Helena “Lena” Meemken

Age 89

Richmond

April 26, 1909 – March 29, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Helena “Lena” Meemken, age 89, who died Saturday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.  Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Golden Smiles Senior Citizens, Christian Women and Catholic Aid Association on Tuesday evening.

Lena was born in Collegeville Township, MN to Robert and Mary (Roske) Kalla. She married Herman Meemken on June 4, 1935 in St. John’s Abbey Church, Collegeville, MN.  The couple moved to the Richmond area after their marriage where she lived until 1989, when she moved to the Good Shepherd Apartments.  On July 11, 2007 she moved to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home at the age of 98.  One of her greatest joys was fishing for food and in her later years, for enjoyment.  Lena did a lot of gardening work and quilt making.  She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo.  Lena prayed many rosaries daily; especially for the past 25 years.   She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Christian Women and Catholic Aid Association.

Survivors include her children, Orville (friend, Margie Olsen) of Litchfield, twins Julitta (Ken) Malikowski of St. Cloud and Coletta (Jim) Legatt of Fridley, Walter (Ione) of Richmond; grandchildren, Mark Legatt (friend, Kathy Mulier), Maria (Tim) Taft, Kristi (James) Flury, Kevin (Jennifer) Legatt, Jodi (John) Scanlon, Jason (Anna) Malikowski, Leon, Terry and Michelle Meemken; great-grandchildren, Mollie and Maxwell Taft, Calvin Flury, Owen and Liam Scanlon and Emma Legatt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman (July 6, 1985); parents; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Meemken; all her siblings, Clara, John, Amelia, Joe, Veronica, Roman, Dorothy, Tom, Mary, Robert, Ann and Charlotte; twin infant grandsons.

A heartfelt thank you to all the ‘special’ people at the Good Shepherd Home who took such good care of Helena.

Marion “Honey” Wittock

Age 89

Cold Spring

October 18, 1918 – March 28, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Marion “Honey” Wittock, age 89, who died Friday at her home.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church.  Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

Honey was born in Worcester, MA to Herbert and Margaret (Shea) Richardson. She married John “Jack” Wittock on August 14, 1948 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Worcester, MA.  They moved to Iron Mountain, MI in 1950 and lived there until 1997, which is the year they moved to Richmond, MN.  Four years later, in 2001, Honey became a Cold Spring resident and has been here for seven years.  She was a member of St. Boniface Parish for the past 11 years.  For many years she belonged to the Lady Lion’s Club, was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, was always in attendance at her family’s activities, and a member of the St. Boniface Christian Women.

Among her family and friends she was fondly referred to as Honey, Auntie Honey and Gramma Honey.  This nickname of “Honey” was given to her as a small child, which was very fitting to her sweet, loving and sincere personality!  Her greatest pleasure in life was the time she spent with her family members.  She always looked forward to family gatherings, especially getting to spend time with her dear grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly!   We will certainly miss her, but will always treasure the memories we made being together throughout our lives. 

Being a devoted wife, a loving Mom, a warm and caring Gramma and Aunt was her ‘job’ here on earth.  Her hobbies include being very artistic in drawings, floral arrangements and ceramics, reading, crocheting, knitting, traveling and shopping.  If you knew her, there was probably a time she prayed for you, as a devout Catholic, she sure believed in the power of prayer.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Chirhart of Cold Spring and son, Gary Wittock of Naples, FL;  sister, Dorothy Yates of Needham, MA; in-laws, Tom and Donna Wittock of MI, Jim and Pat Wittock of Fl, Marge Swanson of MI; grandchildren, Kelly Chirhart of Minneapolis, MN, Katie Chirhart of Portland, OR, Kimberly Wittock of Boston, MA, Michael and Matthew Wittock of Naples, FL; step-grandchildren, Brooke and Brad; godson and nephew, Brian Yates of Newton, MA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (2004); parents, Herbert (1954) and Margaret (1981); 5 infants; infant sister, Loretta; in-laws, Felix (1968) and Rose (1981) Wittock; brothers-in-law, Edmund Yates and Richard Wittock; sisters-in-law, LaVerne Wittock and Lucia Richardson; three nephews, Brian, Mark and Dickie Wittock.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Boniface School’s Pre-Kindergarten Program or the MS Society (Multiple Sclerosis).

Lawrence Dockendorf

Age 90

Cold Spring

September 5, 1917 – March 21, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Lawrence Dockendorf, age 90, who died Friday at the Assumption Nursing Home.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring.  The St. Joseph’s Society will pray a rosary at 4:00 p.m. with the Cold Spring American Legion saying a prayer at 6:00 p.m. and Parish Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home.

Lawrence was born in Eden Valley, MN to Matthew and Christina (Oster) Dockendorf. He married Pauline Meyer on April 11, 1944 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Richmond, MN.  Lawrence was a mechanic at Cold Spring Granite Company for 30+ years.  He loved fishing, playing cards and dancing.   He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Joseph’s Society, Cold Spring American Legion.  Lawrence was an usher for St. Boniface Church, volunteered at the John Paul Apartments and Assumption Nursing Home for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; children, Al (Karen) and Reene (Frank) Schreiner of Cold Spring, Patt (Clarence) Klocker, Jr. and Nick (Gail) of Sartell, Neecy (Ron) Terhaar of Richmond, Lee (Kathy) of Andover, Rich (Cheryl) of St. Cloud; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Mike; sisters, Viola and Millie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; brothers, Alex, Gilbert, John and Leo; half-brother, Albert Neis; sisters, Betty and Olivia.

Hortense Terhaar

Age 92

Cold Spring

October 14, 1915 - March 9, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Hortense Terhaar, age 92, who died Sunday at her home.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church.  Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

Hortense was born in Holdingford, MN to Nicholas and Amanda (Thull) Terhaar.  She was a nurse in both World War II and the Korean War.  Hortense retired from the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital where she was a nurse and an instructor.   She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Cloud Hospital Nurses Association and the Veterans Hospital Nurses Association.  Hortense appreciated her involvement with St. Boniface Parish prayer groups.

Survivors include her siblings, Dolores Manthey, Jeanette Mischke Andrews, James Terhaar and Claire Stock; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Mary Louise Andrews, Fred Terhaar, Doraine Terhaar, Jerry Terhaar and Dick Terhaar.

Helen Anna (Mehr) Wieber

Age 91

St. Joseph formerly of Richmond

May 20, 1916 - March 9, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Sts. Peter  & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Helen Anna Wieber, age 91, who died at the Melrose Hospital after a week hospitalization.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.  Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the St. Catherineís Catholic Aid Association of Farming and Golden Smiles Senior Citizens Wednesday evening.

Helen was born in St. Martin, MN to Michael and Anna (Schmitz) Mehr. She married Edwin Wieber on September 19, 1939 in St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin, MN.  Helen was a loving wife and mother of seven. Helen and Edwin farmed in Farming for years before retiring to Richmond and she lived the past two years at Arlington Place, St. Joseph, MN.  She gifted us with her gardening, bread baking, canning, quilting and great housekeeping.   She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish.

Survivors include her children, Robert of Columbia Heights, Ione (Jerry) Torborg of St. Cloud, Dennis (Patricia) of Appleton, WI, Leon (Diane) of Richmond, Carin (Jerry) Schroeder of Richmond, Gary (Lynn) of Elk River, Doreen (Vern) Frericks of Melrose; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ida Schaefer, Frank Mehr, Anna Mae Huppert and Esther Libbesmeier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin (2003); parents; siblings, John, Mathias, Jacob and Bernard.

Martin Braegelmann

Age 79

Richmond

May 25, 1928 - March 8, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Martin Braegelmann, age 79, who died Saturday at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.  Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Catholic Order of Foresters and Golden Smiles at 4:30 p.m.

Martin was born in Richmond, MN to Henry and Margaret (Schloeder) Braegelmann.  He farmed southwest of Richmond all his life.   He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Order of Forester and the Big Lake Association.

Survivors include his sisters, Clothilda (Raymond) Eickhoff and Viola Nistler; sister-in-law, Valeria Braegelmann; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ludwig and Othmar; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Braegelmann; special friend, Delores Lawrence.

Ida H. Higgins

Age 93

Cold Spring

May 5, 1914 - March 6, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Ida H. Higgins, age 93, who died Thursday at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring.  Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.

Ida was born in Richmond, MN to Matthew and Elizabeth (Rothstein) Schmitt. She did factory work for many years.  In the late 1970ís she moved to Cold Spring and spent the past 11 years in the John Paul Apartments.  Ida enjoyed crafting, crocheting and fishing.   She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Christian Women and Catholic Aid Association.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Ida is the last survivor of the Matthew and Elizabeth Rothstein Schmitt family.
