Age 78

Albany, formerly of Sauk Centre

November 6, 1929 – February 26, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Clarence Dank, age 78, who died Tuesday at the Albany Area Hospital, Albany, MN.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.

Clarence was born in Maple Lake, MN to Bernard and Clara Dank. He attended country school in rural Stearns County.  Clarence had been employed by Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud from 1959 to 1961.  He began working on the Lawrence Gertken Farm in Cold Spring in 1962 where he continued to work for close to 20 years.  Clarence resided at the Dale and Jane Rademacher home in Sauk Centre from 2000 until July 2006 when he moved into the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.

Clarence had worked at WACOSA in Sauk Centre for several years. He will be remembered for always having a big smile on his face and a ready laugh.  He was an easy going, gentle man, who liked animals and people.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Hugo “Hooky” J. Kuhl

Age 83

St. Martin

June 14, 1924 – February 25, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Hugo “Hooky” J. Kuhl, age 83, who died Monday at his home.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Martin Parish Center.  Parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with Lake Henry American Legion, St. Joseph’s Society and Catholic Aid Association.

Hugo was born in St. Martin, MN to Robert and Margaret (Mengelkoch) Kuhl. He married Darlene M. Behnen on June 27, 1950 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich, MN.  Hooky served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.  He worked for Cold Spring Granite as a hand polisher; Buermann Homes as a carpenter; laid carpet for Salzl Floors and May Floors.  After retirement much of his time was spent on woodcrafts and gardening.  He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, horseshoes, guitar and harmonica.   He was a member of St. Martin Parish, St. Joseph Society, Catholic Aid Association, Lake Henry American Legion, St. Martin Choir and served as a parish trustee.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene “Blondie”;  children, Ken (Dawn) of West Granby, CT, Dennis (Sheila) of Wilsall, MT, Rick (Barb) of Bloomington, Charlie of White Bear Lake, Jeanne (Kent) Engebretson of Starbuck, Kathi (Shane) Meisner of Leonardtown, MD; brothers and sisters, Mark Kuhl, Matthew (Sharon) Kuhl, Sr. Rita Kuhl, OSF; sister-in-law, Bernelda Kuhl;  7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Mark; parents; brothers and sister, Carl, Agatha, Fr. Paul, SVD, Benno, Claude, Odo.

Memorials are preferred to Albany Hospice.

Daniel “Dan” Salzer

Age: 76

Cold Spring

October 10, 1931 – February 16, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Daniel “Dan” Salzer, age 76, who died Saturday after a six month battle with Mesothelioma, an asbestos cancer.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish prayers will be at 5:00 p.m. followed by the St. Joseph Society Monday evening.

Dan was born in Cold Spring, MN to George and Bertha (Merdan) Salzer. He married Rosemary Zwilling on September 25, 1958.  Dan loved and cherished his family and will be most remembered for his friendly smile and outgoing personality.  He was a member of St. Boniface Parish and St. Joseph’s Society.

Survivors include his wife, Rosie; children, Deb (DuWayne) Cottew, Steve (Janet) Bob (special friend, Christine), Jerry (Carla), Larry (Shelly) and Barbie (Bob, Jr.) Holthaus; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Pat); sisters, Joan (Norbert) Schramel, Jeanie (Kirk) Smith and Pat (Bill) Kimble; brother-in-law, Erwin Schmitz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson; sisters, Mary Ann Schmitz and Delores Schlangen.  Dan’s family would like to thank the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice and Coborn’s Cancer Center along with the St. Boniface Parish members and staff.  We would like to give a special thanks to our friends and family for all their support during this difficult time.

Helen A. Wieber

Age: 93

Richmond

February 6, 1915 – February 13, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Helen A. Wieber, age 93, who died Wednesday at the Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Spring, MN.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Golden Smiles Senior Citizens, Catholic Order of Foresters and Catholic Aid Society.

Helen was born in St. Martin, MN to John and Elisabeth (Bruemmer) Nett. She married Norbert Jacobs, Oct 1940. Norbert and Helen operated a Dairy Bar in Richmond for many years.  Norbert passed away May 6, 1984.  Helen married Leroy Wieber on May 16, 1986.  Leroy passed way on August 15, 1999.   She worked as an LPN at the Richmond and Paynesville Hospitals until her retirement in 1984.  Helen enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her many friends.  She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Aid Association, Catholic Order of Foresters and Golden Smiles.

Survivors include her step-children, Wayne (Carol) Wieber, Gary (Barb) Wieber, Ron (Katia) Wieber, Dean (Margie) Wieber, Mary Lee Wieber (Carmen); two grandchildren, Jill Jacobs and Cory Jacobs; one great-grandchild, Skeye Jacobs; many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Norbert Jacobs and Leroy Wieber; son, John Jacobs (Nov. 2003); brothers, Joe Nett, Theodore Nett; sisters, Gertrude Rossmeisel, Susan Klassen, Ann Nett and Mary Dold.

Kimberly K. (Petron) Schutz

Age 37

Richmond

June 28, 1970 – February 9, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Kimberly K. (Petron) Schutz, age 37, who died Saturday at the Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis.  Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish Cemetery, Bowlus, MN.

Relatives and friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and on Thursday morning, from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond (151 Oakwood Ave. S.E.).  Parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Kim was born in Little Falls, MN to Dennis and Joyce (Gottwalt) Petron. She married Kenneth Schutz on August 1, 1992 in St. St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Bowlus, MN.  Kim was a loving wife and mother of three.  She could be found where ever they were.  Whether it was hockey or figure skating, it didn’t matter, she was there doing what needed to be done-sewing, cheering or driving from place to place!  Kim liked to crochet and cross stitch in her spare time.  She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish and CSAH Association.

Survivors include her husband, Ken; children, Dylan, Kayla and Alleysha all of Richmond; parents, Dennis and Joyce Petron of Royalton; step mother-in-law, Esther Schutz of Cold Spring; grandmother, Virginia Petron of Rice; brothers and sisters, Darin (Carrie) of Little Falls, Tammy (Chris) Baker of St. Stephen, Eric (Bridget) of Holdingford, Terri (Nathan) Bellefeuille of Royalton, Nick (friend-Larrisa) of Royalton, Aaron (friend-Denise) of Royalton; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ralph Petron, Joseph and Eleanor Gottwalt; father-in-law, John Schutz and mother-in-law, Julia Schutz; two uncles and one cousin.

MN for Leona Merten, age 90, who died 
Friday.  Burial will be in the parish

and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Monday 
morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in 
Cold Spring.  The Holy Cross Christian
Women will pray a rosary at 4:30 p.m.
and Parish Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. 
on Sunday evening.
     Leona was born in Vermillion, MN to 
Conrad and Elizabeth (Bauer) Ficker. She 
married Aloys Merten  in 1941, St. 
Nicholas Catholic Church, St. Nicholas, 
MN.  Leona was a loving wife and mother 
of eleven. Leona worked in various 
businesses throughout her lifetime 
retiring from Cold Spring Granite in 1982. 
She enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing
cards, flower beds and the MN Twins!  
Leona was the cook for the parish priest
at Holy Cross Church for many years.  
She was a member of Holy Cross Parish,
Christian Women and the Catholic Aid 
Association.
    Survivors include her children, Gene 
(Georgianne), Peter (Sandy), Theresa 
Berger all of Marty, Marty (Robert) Ahles
of St. Cloud, Elizabeth Merten of Watkins,
Mary (John) Gertken of Cold Spring, 
Lorraine “Tuttie” Kotschevar of St. Joseph, 
Patricia (Harris) Shellito of Fargo, ND 
and JoAnn (Kenneth) Krueger of Cold Spring; 
daughter-in-law, Pam Schlagheck; 35 
grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Aloys; son, James; daughter, 
Dorothy “Dot”; son-in-laws, Robert Berger
and George Gustafson; grandson, Jesse

Harold DeWenter

Age 91

Cold Spring

September 10, 1916 – February 6, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. James Catholic Church in Jacobs Prairie, MN for Harold DeWenter, age 91, who died Wednesday morning at the Assumption Nursing Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Aid Association and St. James Men’s Society at 4:30 p.m. on Friday evening.

Harold was born in Wakefield Township, MN to John and Anna (Hansen) DeWenter.  He enjoyed farming and retired from Franklin Mfg. (Frigidaire) after 29 years of employment.  Harold liked to fish and play cards. He was a member of St. James Parish and Men’s Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and Catholic Aid Association.

Survivors include his children, Ervin (Samantha) of Cold Spring, Helen (Ralph) Heinen of Richmond and Diane (Don) Garding of Kimball; 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edmund and daughter-in-law, Donna.

Sue was born in Richmond, MN to Edward and Eileen (Heying) Becker. She married Donald Schaefer on September 16, 1969 in St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud.  Sue was an employee of JC Penney’s for 35 years.  She loved golfing, jewelry, visiting her children and grandson.

Survivors include her children, Heidi of Los Angeles, CA and Peter of Buena Vista, CO; grandson, John “Jack”; brothers and sisters, Robert (Virginia) Becker, Nancy (Terry) Morrow, Carol Becker, Anne (Garmon) Tipka and Kay (Chuck) Nordhausen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Gregor and Helen Heying and Nick, Josephine and Ann Becker.

Donald Schaefer

Age 64

Don was born in New Munich, MN to Leo and Marie (Donnelly) Schaefer. He married Susan Becker on September 16, 1969 in St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud.  Don was a construction superintendent.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, Westerns and his grandson, Jack. 

Survivors include his children, Heidi of Los Angeles, CA and Peter of Buena Vista, CO; grandson, John “Jack”; brothers and sisters, Irene Manuel, Rose (Art) Goebel, Robert Schaefer, Allen (Doris) Schaefer and Ralph (Carol) Schaefer.
