St. Martin

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Hugo “Hooky” J. Kuhl, age 83, who died Monday at his home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Martin Parish Center. Parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with Lake Henry American Legion, St. Joseph’s Society and Catholic Aid Association.
Hugo was born in St. Martin, MN to Robert and Margaret (Mengelkoch) Kuhl. He married Darlene M. Behnen on June 27, 1950 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich, MN. Hooky served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked for Cold Spring Granite as a hand polisher; Buermann Homes as a carpenter; laid carpet for Salzl Floors and May Floors. After retirement much of his time was spent on woodcrafts and gardening. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, horseshoes, guitar and harmonica. He was a member of St. Martin Parish, St. Joseph Society, Catholic Aid Association, Lake Henry American Legion, St. Martin Choir and served as a parish trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene “Blondie”; children, Ken (Dawn) of West Granby, CT, Dennis (Sheila) of Wilsall, MT, Rick (Barb) of Bloomington, Charlie of White Bear Lake, Jeanne (Kent) Engebretson of Starbuck, Kathi (Shane) Meisner of Leonardtown, MD; brothers and sisters, Mark Kuhl, Matthew (Sharon) Kuhl, Sr. Rita Kuhl, OSF; sister-in-law, Bernelda Kuhl; 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Mark; parents; brothers and sister, Carl, Agatha, Fr. Paul, SVD, Benno, Claude, Odo.
Memorials are preferred to Albany Hospice.
