Donald N. Peters

Age 59

Cold Spring

August 2, 1948 – January 27, 2008

A Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for Donald N. Peters, age 59, who died unexpectedly at his home from natural causes.  Deacon Joe Kresky will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery at a later date.

Relatives and friends may call from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Don was born in St. Cloud, MN to Clem and Dorothy (Leither) Peters. He received a Purple Heart medal while serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Don worked in the granite industry for most of his life.  He loved to hunt, fish, and most of all - gardening was his pride and joy!  He enjoyed raising and training hunting dogs.  He kept area residents well stocked with fish, garden produce and flowers.  He was a member of the Vietnam Last Man’s Club.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy of Cold Spring; sisters, Kathy (Jeff) Cziok of Sartell, Joan (Robert) Streater of North Branch and brother, Pat of Cold Spring; nephews, Adam and Alex Streater; his dog, Max; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clem (7-28-83) and his grandparents.

Christine R. Lahr

age 92

Cold Spring

August 6, 1915 – January 24, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Christine R. Lahr, age 92, who died Thursday at the Assumption Nursing Home.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish prayers will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Christian Women.

Christine was born in St. Martin, MN to Peter and Margaret (Gossler) Birk. She married Norbert Mumm who died in 1949.  She then married Marcellus J. Lahr on April 10, 1950 in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring. Christine was a loving wife and mother of six children. She was a homemaker, did daycare for her grandchildren and worked at Fingerhut for eight years.   Christine enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards and reading.  She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and Christian Women.

Survivors include her children, Darlene (Buddy) Ramler of Crystal, Roger (Sharon) Mumm of Hutchinson, Thomas (Paula) Mumm of Prior Lake, Mary (Charles) Theisen of St. Cloud and Deb (Fran) Ramler of Cold Spring; 18 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; brother, William Birk.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Norbert (1949) and Marcellus (2006); parents; daughter, Patricia Kaiser; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Kristine Ann Cunningham Rose

Age 40

Cold Spring

November 8, 1967 – January 22, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Kristine Ann Cunningham Rose, age 40, who died at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Burial will be at a later date.

Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and Friday morning one hour prior to the service in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church in Cold Spring.  Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

Kristine Ann Cunningham Rose was born in Wheaton, MN, November 8, 1967, to John Patrick Cunningham and Cheryle Ann Giroux Cunningham.  She was baptized into the Catholic faith on November 26th 1967 at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton. 

On October 26, 1985 she was confirmed in the Catholic faith by Bishop Raymond Lucker at St John’s Church in Ortonville.  Kristine graduated, in 1986, from Ortonville High School. She received a BA in Social Work from the College of St. Benedict in 1990 and began her career working in long-term care at Galtier Health Center in St. Paul and then at St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud, MN.  For the past 9 years, she has worked as a Physician Recruiter for Centra Care Health Systems in St. Cloud.

On St. Patrick’s’ Day 2001 she was joined in marriage to Robert Jon Rose, of Cold Spring, MN.  Throughout their 11 years together, Kristine, and step-daughter, Jenna Rose, have always had a very special relationship. 

Kristine is survived by husband, Robert Jon Rose, and step daughter, Jenna Rose, Cold Spring, MN; parents, John and Sheri (Giroux) Cunningham, Ortonville, MN; brother, Micheal John Cunningham (Abby), St. Cloud, MN; sister, Colleen Cunningham Orne (Jason), Avon, MN; father-in-law, Gilbert Rose, New Ulm, MN; brother-in-laws, Steve and Scott Rose, New Ulm, MN; nieces, Lily and Emily Orne, Andria and Melissa Rose and Elizabeth Brown; nephews, John Thomas Orne and Jeremy Rose.

Along with her love for movies, shopping, a great cup of coffee, and spending time with friends; Kristine had a passion for wearing green clothes and donning Celtic jewelry and mementos to honor her Irish roots. Kris’ smile, quick wit and infectious laugh could brighten anyone’s day.

Kristine loved Minnesota summers at her home on the Sauk River, the family’s cabins on Lake Traverse and all activities sun-related.  Along with her three dogs and three cats, Kristine loved music and was very moved by song lyrics.  She often shared gifts of music with friends and family; hoping to inspire them as she had been inspired by such pieces.

Kristine was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Cold Spring and played in the bell choir for several years.  For many years, she also served as co-chair of the YES (You Excel at Satisfaction) team at the St. Cloud Hospital – celebrating the accomplishments and commitments of the professionals she thought so highly of at the hospital.  Additionally, she served as Sponsorship Chair for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for
Life in Central Minnesota.  For nine years, Kristine organized a team and walked in the Relay for Life raising thousands of dollars to find a cure for cancer. 

In November 2007, Kristine received the Courage Award from the American Cancer Society, Central MN Chapter, for her efforts in raising funds to support the cancer society’s mission; as well as to honor her courageous journey in her second fight against cancer.

In her final weeks, Kristine planned her funeral, made burial and mass arrangements and made certain others would be at peace after her passing.  Kristine gave her life to make certain others felt valued, heard and cared for.  Her no-nonsense, honest, say-what-you-mean approach to life was a lesson for us all.  She lived life to its fullest.
