Virginia “Jinny” (Michaelson) Cater

A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Saint Cloud, MN for Virgina “Jinny” Cater, age 85, who died Thursday at the Saint Cloud Hospital after a long battle with cancer. A private family burial will be 11:30 a.m. at the North Star Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. There will be a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
Jinny was born to Charles and Clara (King) Michaelson in St. Cloud on November 29, 1921. She graduated from St. Cloud State University and then taught school for one year. At the beginning of World War II she did office work for a construction company in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 1945, she became a stewardess with American Airlines, based in Memphis, TE.
Jinny married Kenneth H. Cater on April 18, 1947 at Peabody Ave, Methodist Church in Memphis, TE. After they moved back to St. Cloud, she worked with March of Dimes, Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts. She received an award from the MN Trapshooting Association for the work she did in assisting her husband in secretarial work. Jinny loved to accompany Ken to Trap shoots throughout the United States and Canada. Her interest included traveling around the United States and overseas, oil painting, playing bridge, golf and “yahtzee” with her daughter. She and her sister Ann wrote a book “Letters to my Sister”. Jinny was a member of First United Methodist Church, St. Cloud.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth; daughter Kimberly (fiancé Steve Halstensgaard) of Perham; grandchildren Nicholas, Jess and Kristi; sisters, Ann Sullivan of San Antonio, TX, Judy Fischer of Andover, MN; and her sister-in-law Gladys Michaelson of San Diego, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, and sisters; Carolyn Fiene, Marie Hart and Myra Jacobs.
