Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe, MN for Albin (Nellie) Niewind, age 89, who died Tuesday at the Koronis Manor, Paynesville. Burial will be in the St. Agnes parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond (151 Oakwood Ave. S.E.) in Richmond. The St. Josephís Society, Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Aid Association will pray a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wenner Funeral Home.
Nellie was born in Roscoe, MN to John and Veronica (Ley) Niewind. He married Estella Blasius on June 12, 1939 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Richmond, MN. Nellie was a farmer and stone cutter before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, hunting, trapping, cutting wood, eating (sweets) and watching the Minnesota Twins. He is a member of St. Agnes Parish, St. Joseph Society, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid Association, Moose Lodge, Roscoe Recreation Club and Roscoe Sportsmanís Club.
Survivors include his children, John (Darlene) of Richmond, Carol (Denis) Holthaus of Cold Spring, JoAnn (Leo) Ripplinger of Blaine, Mike (Kadie) of Montrose, Chuck (Alice) of Grand Rapids, Kathy (Mike) Phillipp of St. Joseph, Joe (Char) of Richmond, and Sue (Richard) Burg of St. Martin; 31 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Bernard (Natalie) Niewind and sister, Theresa Blasius.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Estella (1989); parents; brother, Dick; sister, Sally Fink; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
