Cold Spring

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Alfred (Fritz) Stommes, age 84, who died Saturday at the DVA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Burial will be in the St. Nicholas parish cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 ñ 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Nicholas Menís Society, American Legion Post #455 and Cold Spring Senior Citizens.
Alfred was born in St. Nicholas, MN to John B. and Mary (Dockendorf) Stommes. He married Lorraine Becker on April 20, 1948 in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Richmond, MN. Alfred farmed near St. Nicholas and retired to Cold Spring in 1984. He enjoyed being with family and friends, singing with the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor, volunteering at the V. A. and Cold Spring Senior Center, playing cards and fishing. Alfred was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Nicholas Menís Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Post #455, Resurrection Choir of St. Boniface, Cold Spring Senior Center and former member of the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; children, Dennis (Dianne) of Miami, FL, Pat (Larry) Hicks of Ownesboro, KY, Jeanne (David) Haag of Richmond, Tom (Gail) of St. Cloud, Rita (Mark) James of St. Michael, Joseph of Plymouth, Joan (Nick) Schulte of Cold Spring, Shelley (Steve) Kern of Watkins; 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Alois, Margaret Torborg, Ervin, Elmer, Roman, Eugene, Jerome and John.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marie Kuechle and an infant sister.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
