ROCORI Spartans 2009 Homecoming game was played this past weekend in
some of the most brutal weather conditions for ROCORI football in
recent years. Rain and heavy winds created difficult situations for the
Spartans’ spread offense. Holding onto the ball was also a tough task
as Derek Lieser fumbled on the Spartans first possession. After a quick
score by the Alexandria Cardinals the Spartans struggles to pass
continued. Eventually Alexandria would get their ground attack firing
on all cylinders, and they would go on to win the game easily, 29-6.

Coming off a tough loss to the Sauk Rapids Storm, ROCORI was faced
with the difficult task of traveling to Fergus Falls. Although Fergus
Falls graduated many of their key athletes, the long bus ride and
hostile crowd is never easy to overcome.
In the first half,
both teams moved the ball between the twenties, but were unable to
finish off their drives. The ROCORI defense came up with a couple of
key stops when they needed to, and the two sides were knotted at zeros
at the half.
Slowly but surely the Spartans offense gained
momentum in the second half. Derek Lieser led an impressive 94-yard
touchdown drive as he made plays with his arm and his legs. He capped
off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to put the Spartans up 7-0.
Lieser hooked up with Nathan Meyer for a 60-yard touchdown in the
fourth quarter and ROCORI was able to hang on for the 13-7 victory on
the road. The Spartans will take on the Alexandria Cardinals next in
their 2009 Homecoming Game! Be sure to stay tuned to DigElog ROCORI for
all of your Spartans Homecoming coverage.

Last Friday night the ROCORI Spartans
took on the Fergus Falls Otters. The Otters came into Cold Spring
undefeated with impressive CLC victories against Willmar and Sartell.
The first quarter was packed with action as both teams put up a
combined 35 points. This story features all of the first half
highlights from the game.
After a long first half filled with scoring, the temperature began to drop and
the fog rolled into Spartan Stadium. At times the players had trouble seeing the ball let alone gripping it in their hands. Down by just one score, the Spartans
leaned on their defense to stop the Otters playmakers. Watch the second
half of the game as the Spartans fought to pull out a win against a
great undefeated opponent.
