ROCORI Varsity Football vs Alexandria - GAME HIGHLIGHTS

The ROCORI Varsity Football Spartans traveled to Alexandria, MN, to take on a winless Alexandria Cardinals. The Spartans learned early in the game that the Cardinals were not going to go down without a fight, especially on their school's homecoming. The Spartans dominated the first half, but the score still remained close as the teams went into halftime with the Spartans leading 13-7.

SECOND HALF

The second half included a number of very tough calls against the Spartans by the officials.  The Spartans were positioned to win this one with less than three minutes remaining.  The game totally reversed in favor of the Alexandria Cardinals after a blocked punt that was carried to the to the Spartan one yard line.  The Cardinal's would score and then score again in less than two minutes, following an interception
deep in Spartan territory.  The final score of 19 to 29 in no way represented the hard fought game this was between ROCORI and Alexandria.

Last Friday night the ROCORI Spartans took on the Fergus Falls Otters. The Otters came into Cold Spring undefeated with impressive CLC victories against Willmar and Sartell. The first quarter was packed with action as both teams put up a combined 35 points. This story features all of the first half highlights from the game.

After a long first half filled with scoring, the temperature began to drop and the fog rolled into Spartan Stadium. At times the players had trouble seeing the ball let alone gripping it in their hands. Down by just one score, the Spartans leaned on their defense to stop the Otters playmakers. Watch the second half of the game as the Spartans fought to pull out a win against a great undefeated opponent.

The Rocori Spartans varsity football team returned home this week to take on the undefeated Fergus Falls Otters.  In this game highlight Quarterback Adam Backes fakes a half-back pitch and then finds wide receiver Dustin Schlangen on a long pass down the middle.  Schlangen breaks two tackles and lopes on into the end zone for a 65 yard touchdown.  This ended up being a back and forth dog fight between two well coached teams. ROCORI Varsity Football vs Sauk Rapids-Rice GAME HIGHLIGHTS

The ROCORI Spartans took their unbeaten record on the road last Friday as they looked to win a third straight CLC match up. It would not be easy for the Spartans as the Sauk Rapids Storm have a solid ground attack and a defiantly stout defense. The first quarter was dominated by defensive play with a late field goal miss keeping the score tied at 0-0. Each team scored a touchdown in the second quarter. The Storm took just two plays to get into the end zone on a long run. The Spartans methodically controlled the clock during their eventual journey across the goal line.


SECOND HALF

The second half was all the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm as they controlled the clock for over seven of ten minutes in the third quarter. They would score two quick touchdowns and put the game out of reach as the Spartan offense was not able to get anything going. Hats off to the Storm as they have a great ball club. It’s likely that if the Spartans are going to make it through the playoffs, they’ll have to go through by way of the Storm.  Watch for more highlights this coming weekend and be sure to get on out and support the Spartans as they return home this Friday in a game against Fergus Falls.

After Traveling to Little Falls last week, the Spartans took their unbeaten record across the Mississippi river to take on CLC rival, the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm. The first half was evenly matched, as each team scored a touchdown. On this play you’ll see a touchdown pass down the far sideline from Adam Backes to Mitch Bork. First Half

The ROCORI Spartans traveled to Little Falls last Friday to take on the Flyers. Right from the start the Spartans looked focused and aggressive. Adam Backes was sharp as he led the Spartans down the field to score early in the first quarter. From there, the Spartans never looked back as they brought pressure on defense and continued to pound the ball with their running game. Watch the first half highlights of this dominant performance by the Spartans.

For the second straight game, the ROCORI defense played outstanding. They took a 20-0 lead into the second half and did not hold back. If not for an interception that set up field position inside the red zone for the Flyers, the Spartan defense would have held the Flyers scoreless. The Rocori Spartans had their first away game of the season when they traveled to Little Falls on Friday, September 5th, 2008.  In this game highlight sample, Quarterback Adam Backes finds wide receiver Mitch Bork who leaps high in the air and after a bobble catch successfully finds the end zone.  ROCORI dominated throughout this game and put together their second consecutive win of the season.  Stay tuned for more highlights of the entire game later this week here on DigElogROCORI.

9th Grade Football Season Opener

This story features coverage from the ROCORI Ninth Grade Football team as they battled St Cloud Apollo in their home opener of the 2008 season. The team played exceptional football as they routed the Eagles 40-14.

In this story, you’ll also get to hear from coach Josh Austad as he tells us about the team. He also discusses the pleasure of having a large number of kids out this year, as well as some of the specific coaching aspects that the staff tries to focus on.  Austad concludes his interview by introducing this year's 9th grade captains.
