Sauk Rapids vs St. Michael Girls Volleyball

Last Friday evening the girl’s volleyball team traveled to St. Michael to take on the Knights in a difficult playoff match. The Storm got off to a slow start and the Knights seemed to have an answer to every move the Storm made.  Unfortunately the Storm would get swept in this game, but the young team has a lot of talent and they hope this year will be a building block to a winning 2008-2009 season.

Sauk Rapids vs Monticello Volleyball Sub-section playoffs

In the first round of the 2007 volleyball playoffs the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm hosted Monticello. The Storm came out with the fire and intensity they showed last year at this time. The Storm dominated from start to finish of the three-game match and advanced in the single elimination tournament.

Sauk Rapids hosted Sartell in a huge Central Lake Conference volleyball match. Nikki Meinz led the Storm attack as Sauk Rapids dominated from start to finish. In the first two games Sauk Rapids jumped out to huge leads (7-1 and 7-0 respectively). In the third and final game of the evening the Storm controlled the play and won by 14 points.

It was a great matchup between the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm and the ROCORI Spartans. The Spartans came into the contest in a tie for the Central Lake Conference lead. Sauk Rapids is right in the middle of the pack but working their way up the standings. Nikki Meinz had her best match of the season and Linzi Conrad helped out as this match went all five games.

It was a huge match up for the Storm girls as they traveled to Apollo to take on the Eagles. With Nikki Meinz back in the lineup the Storm have once again regained their dominance as the season winds down. Anita McLaird had a huge game as the setter for the Storm. She recorded 33 set assists as Sauk Rapids would sweet Apollo in a Central Lake Conference clash.

It was a clash of Central Lake Conference foes as the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm took on the Tigers. The St. Cloud Tech Tigers came in as the number one team in the Conference. During the first game it looked like we had a great matchup as the Tigers would prevail 26-24. The Tigers quickly erased any hope for the Storm as they would go on and with the next two games to sweep the Storm. Nikki Meinz returned to the Storm lineup after sitting out with a banged up right knee.

It was a breakout performance for Emily Lindmeier as she dominated the front row for Sauk Rapids. The entire Storm team showed their true colors. The effort they showed was reminiscent of last year's Central Lake Conference Champion team. Seniors Ashley Carlson and Kelsey Trewick were key components in the victory for the Storm as they would get a number of aces in each game. The Storm would win 3 games to 1 and pick up a key Central Lake Conference win.

The Storm took on the undefeated ROCORI Spartans on Tuesday September 11th in Sauk Rapids. it was a tough start and a tough night for the girls as they would lose three straight games. Nikki Kotenbeutel was our star of the game.

It was the first conference game of the season for the girls volleyball team from Sauk Rapids/Rice as they took on the Willmar Cardinals. The Storm struggled from the beginning to get their offense in a rhythm. Linzi Conrad and Nikki Kothenbutel led the offensive attack and Ashley Carlson had 15 digs for the Storm.

The Sauk Rapids Storm Girls’ Volleyball team hosted the Pierz Pioneers on Thursday August 30 and looked to get off to a strong start this season. Led by solid play at the net, the girls didn’t quite have enough in the tank and would lose a tough match. However, the good news is that the loss was against a non-conference opponent.
