Sauk Rapids/Rice wrestling was in action at home against the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles. The Storm boys dug themselves an early hole as they trailed 22-0. Sauk Rapids/Rice went on to win the next 5 matches and cut the lead to one at 22-21 but the Eagles proved to be too much in the end. Stay tuned to Digelog as Tyler Spiczka goes for the school record for all-time wins and Evan Warnert approaches the 100 win plateau.

Sauk Rapids vs Sartell Playoff Football

On Saturday October 27, the Sauk Rapids Storm traveled to Sartell to take on the Sabres. The Storm had revenge on their minds as Sartell blew them out the last time the two teams played. Although Sartell jumped out to an early lead, this game would be much closer than the last with the Storm making great plays on both sides of the ball. Watch this story and see all the first half highlights.

The Strom were slow out of the gate in the first half and things would be no different in the second half. Sartell picked off the first pass from scrimmage and took it to the house for a touchdown. The Storm were able to come back strong and almost pull of what would have been one of the biggest wins in school history but they just fell short. In the first round of the Class 4A playoffs the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm would play host to the Apollo Eagles. Bill Magnuson stressed the importance of playing in front of the home crowd and playing with pride. The defense for the Storm came out and led the charge. They would force a couple of first half turnovers as this one went to half scoreless.

The Storm would come out in the second half with the same defensive intensity they played with in the first half. Anthony Bemboom would complete a 70 yard touchdown to Joe Statz and Evan Warnert would run another one in from the one yard line to seal the game for the Storm. The Storm will be in action this Saturday the 27th at 7 p.m. in Sartell.

In the 2007 Class 4A playoff opener The Sauk Rapids Storm hosted St. Cloud Apollo. It was a great game from start to finish. The majority of the game was dominated by defense for both teams. Here, Michael Baltes lays the wood to an Apollo running back.

Early in the second half the Storm would find their offense. On their very first possesion of the second half Anthony Bemboom hooked up with Joe Statz on a 70 yard TD pass. The momentum would soon switch again as on Apollo's next possesion they too would score and we found ourselves in another nail-biting finish.

The conditions were perfect for the Storm to regroup from their tough defeat from the previous week as they played the Little Falls Flyers on a wet and wild Wednesday night. Watch the highlights from this game as the Storm looked to roll forward into the section playoffs.

Although the weather got substantially worse in the second half, the Storm continued to pound the ball between the tackles and make key plays to force turnovers. The Storm looked impressive and they will need to be sharp as they head into their game against the Apollo Eagles who just beat the ROCORI Spartans last week. Sauk Rapids/Rice Varsity Football vs Sartell

It was the Annual Father-Son game for the Sauk Rapids/Rice Football Storm as they took on the Sabres from Sartell. The game itself was one of those tough games for the Storm where nothing went right and  Sartell took the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The defense for Sauk Rapids fought hard led by Drew Gaffke who had 10 tackles. The breaks just weren't going the way of the Storm as things just kept snowballing against them. The Storm would eventually lose by 48 and they will need to have a short memory as they take on Little Falls this Wednesday to finish off the regular season.

It was a huge Central Lake Conference battle between ROCORI and Sauk Rapids/Rice. The Storm would try and reach the .500 mark for the first time all season against a very high powered Spartan team. The offense for the Storm was typical. methodical, time-consuming drives that lead to points. The Storm would strike first with a Johnson TD run and strike right before half with a Bemboom to Elliot Td reception.

In the second half the Storm would force a turnover on the first possesion. They wouldn't score but it would set the tempo for the remainder of the game. Johnson would rush in another TD and when it was all said and done, the Coach Madnuson would be hugging everyone within hugging distance. It was a great win for the program and it was a great win for the Seniors who have never beaten ROCORI.

It was homecoming for the Sauk Rapids Storm and, they did not disappoint as they handled the Bemidji Lumberjacks with ease. Special teams were the key for the Storm and their offense was adequate. Although Bemidji was driving at the end of the first half, John Gans intercepted the Lumberjack’s quarterback in the end zone to end the half. It was a great game between the #7 ranked team in Class 5A and The Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm. The Storm traveled to Tech to take on the Tigers in Central Lake Conference action. It was a defensive dogfight and Sauk Rapids would force 4 straight turnovers to start the game. Evan Warnert would come up with a interception and fumble recovery and would also score the lone touchdown of the first half. Joe Statz was the unsung hero as he would, time after time, pin the Tigers with great punts.

In the second half the Storm would continue their powerful defense. The Sauk Rapids boys were wound up and would try and get through the big tough Tech defense. They wouldn't be able to scratch any points across in regulation but the game would go into overtime. The Storm would lose on a failed two-point conversion. It was a heart-breaking loss but the game had many positives that the team can build on for the near future.

It was Parents' Night and the first home game of the season for the Sauk Rapids/Rice football team. They would take on a very good Willmar team that jumped out to a huge lead early. The Storm weren't able to get any bounces to go their way in the first half and found themselves trying to play catch up.

In the second half of Parents' Night the Storm would come out with respect on their mind. The defense would force a quick Willmar drive and then it was Anthony Bemboom's turn to show off his strong throwing arm. He connected twice with Joe Statz and both led to touchdowns. The final score wasn't the the key for the Storm as the coaching staff had a chance to see their second and third string guys show their potential.

In the first half of Friday Night's football game neither team got their offense going. Lucas Fragodt and the Storm defense held the Apollo running game in check and would only allow 6 first half points. The Storm offense couldn't find the endzone and went into the locker room down by 6.

In the second half the Storm would only get the ball twice on offense. Both drives resulted in touchdowns and the Storm offense look sharp. Just as sharp was the defense which completely shut down the Eagles' offense in the second half. Matthew Elliot and Anthony Bemboom each had rushing touchdowns for the Storm. It would come down to the last seconds once again with the Eagles on the Sauk Rapids three yard line going for the win.

In our first look at the 2007 season Sauk Rapids traveled to Fergus Falls to take on the Otters. Anthony Bemboom completed an 8 yard pass to Drew Gaffke for the only score for the Storm in the first half. The Storm defense was great and limited the Otters to 6 first half points.

In the second half both offenses found the niche. Sauk Rapids would take a lead into the final minutes and have a chance to win. Fergus Falls, running their spread formation offense would lead a charge that the Storm could not stop. Fergus Falls would have 3 to 4 receivers on every play and Sauk Rapids didn't have enough guys to cover all of the receivers on the field. The Storm would lose in heartbreaking fashion, a hail mary prayer that was answered for the Otters.

Sauk Rapids vs Fergus Falls Football Highlights

Here are a few of the standout plays from last Friday night's game in Fergus Falls. The Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm lost a heartbreaker on a hail mary in the final seconds. It was a great game and it is a promising note that the Storm are improving with every snap they take and every play they defend. It's that time of the year as we start to prepare for the high school fall sports. We had a chance to meet with Bill Magnuson, the Head Coach of the Storm football team. This year Bill sees a lot of promise with his young team. Anthony Bemboom will lead the offense as he and the Storm try and do some damage this year in the Central Lake Conference. Stay tuned all season long as we go in-depth with the Storm Football program.
