The Storm score 71 but it wasn't enough as they fall to the Spartans

Sauk Rapids/Rice took on the ROCORI Spartans in boys basketball this past Tuesday. The Storm jumped out early and built a lead against the Spartans on the shoulders of Patrick Piepkorn. Piepkorn had 10 first half points, but it wasn't enough as ROCORI would eventually start to pull away from the Storm.

Sauk Rapids/Rice took on the ROCORI Spartans in CLC action on January 11th. Sauk Rapids/Rice started out on a 4-0 run before ROCORI was forced to take a timeout. It was a difficult game for the Storm girls as they were unable to really get into a flow on offense. Their defense at times reeked havoc on the Spartans but in the end it wouldn't be enough to secure a win.

Sauk Rapids/Rice vs St. Cloud Tech boys basketball

Sauk Rapids/Rice took on a very good Tech Tigers team. The Storm would jump out to a quick start mainly because of their ability to break the full court press applied by the Tigers. St. Cloud Tech shot tremendously from behind the arc and would capitalize on turnovers late in the first half and early in the second half.

The Sauk Rapids/Rice boys basketball team was in action against the Brainerd Warriors. The Warriors built and early first half lead due in large part to a high shooting percentage. The Storm would fight their way back into the game in the second half on the shoulders of great defense. In the end the Storm would fall just short. It was a game that the Storm can build on for the season.

It was the season opener for the Storm boys basketball team. They took on a very good Princeton Tiger team in which they had division one talent. At the start of the game the Storm were outsized but were very agressive on the defensive end. It wouldn't turn out in the Storm favor when time ran out but there were promising things for Sauk Rapids/Rice to build on for their upcoming conference season.

The Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm kicked off the Girls Basketball season with a tough inter-conference match up against the Willmar Cardinals. Although the team did not have many wins last year, they played competitively and hope to improve on last year’s effort. The Sauk Rapids/Rice boys baseball team would jump up by a quick three runs on the ROCORI Spartans. Tony Bemboom was great behind the dish and with his bat once again. Joe Statz would get this game going with his nack to get on early and often. Late in the game the Spartans would start to hit the ball against the Storm pitching and made a come back run.  You'll have to view this story to see who pulled this one out.

Sauk Rapids Boys Basketball vs Brainerd

It was the regular season finale for the Storm boys basketball. It was also senior night and the boys were given commemorative plaques by the coaching staff. It has been a rough year for Storm basketball but they wanted to go out with a fight. The first half was a fun one to watch and great defense sparked great offense. It would be a close game all the way through between Brainerd and Sauk Rapids.

It was a four point game when the second half got under way. Sauk Rapids would be led by the freshman point guard, Cody Meyer. He and Christiansen would be the offensive outburst for the Storm. In the end, Landon Stanfield would be too much for the Storm to handle.

Sauk Rapids Girls BB vs Fergus Falls

In this story the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm girls basketball team battles against one of the best teams in the CLC, Fergus Falls. It was close for most of the first half and then the ball, for some reason, refused to go in for the Storm girls. Leah Schmitz was a bright spot in the half for Sauk Rapids.

The second half was the same story for the Storm girls. They would cut into the halftime deficit and make a good push for the lead. And then... right around the 8 minute mark, the girls couldn't buy a bucket. Leah Schmitz and Jesse Warzecha each scored in double figures in this eventual Storm loss.

It was another tough game for the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm boys basketball team. They would struggle to find their niche in this game. There was a demonstration of great hustle and the team didn't give up at any time. In the final score the Storm ended up losing by 26 but Aaron Haakonsen had a double-double against ROCORI, the best rebounding team in the conference. He finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

SR/Rice Girls Basketball vs ROCORI

In the first half of the Sauk Rapids/Rice girls basketball game, Katie Christian led the Storm on many fast breaks with her timely defense. Also, the Warzecha girls were outstanding in the first half offensively. The Storm went on a run with three point shooting and took a lead into the halftime locker room.

The Storm girls had a game on their hands late in the second half. ROCORI made a run and took the lead with about 6 minutes remaining. The three point shot was there all game long for Sauk Rapids. They would call upon the key threes for the majority of the second half. The game would be iced at the free throw line and the girls would win by 10.

Sauk Rapids/Rice Girls Basketball vs St. Coud Apollo

The Storm girls' basketball team would come out on fire in this game against St. Cloud Apollo. They were shooting the lights out in the gym and were playing tenacious defense. Katie Christian led the Storm to a 22 point lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half the Storm girls continued to dominate their opponent. The Worzecha girls were a powerful force on offense and they really focused on bottling up the Apollo Eagles interior play. By the end of the night, the Storm looked like a powerhouse team on both ends of the court.
