In this story you’ll get a chance to learn about the 2008 Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year, Phil Pederson. The Chamber of Commerce held a banquet lunch that paid tribute to Phil, and recognized the years of civil service that he was a part of in the Sauk Rapids community. You’ll also get a chance to hear from Greg Vandal, the MC for the event as well as Phil himself. As you’ll see in this video, Phil is a very deserving winner and DigElog Sauk Rapids would like to thank him for his continued effort in serving this community.

The Sauk Rapids Marching Band and many others gathered in remembrance of their loved ones who have fallen in combat. It was a lovely day. Many gathered to listen to dignitaries and veterans talk about their experiences and what this day means to them.

In another exclusive DigElogSAUKRAPIDS 2008 Pageant feature, this story captures the ladies learning how to enhance their facial features.  A local skin care specialist was brought in the teach the girls the finer art of makeup usage.  This story captures the before, during and after makeup application.  With makeup adorn, each pageant candidate introduces themselves and gives recognition to their sponsors.

OLD GLORY RUN * "A Solute To Those Who Serve"

Over 700 runners participated last Saturday in the first annual "OLD GLORY RUN" held in Cold Spring, Minnesota.  The run was organized as a "Salute To Those Who Serve".  Local veterans were recognized for the contribution they continue to make in the fight for freedom around the world.  The goal was to line the race route with "flag-waving" Americans cheering on the runners...especially the soldiers and veterans who were running.   This story captures the opening ceremony and the beginning of the 5K race.

Miss Sauk Rapids Pageant Sash Bash

The Rapids River Days Pageant is on the horizon and the candidates are busy getting to know each other as well as performing various community services. In this story, you’ll see the girls at their first official meeting, “The Sash Bash.” You’ll also hear from Pageant Coordinator Marla Ellness. Marla is a former Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year, and she does a phenomenal job with these young ladies.

After months of preparation and community service, the candidates will participate in the grand finale, the Rapids River Days Pageant.
Pageant candidates will be vying for $3,000 in scholarships: $1,500 for Miss Sauk Rapids, $900 for First Princess, and $600 for Second Princess. Cash and prizes will also be awarded to Miss Congeniality and the Evening Gown/Poise/Personality winner.

Eligible candidates are young women who are juniors or seniors in high school and are residents of Sauk Rapids or Rice, MN. (The candidate's school plays no part in the eligibility requirements.)

Old Glory Run

In this story you’ll hear from Curt Karls about an event that is taking place Saturday May 17, 2008 that will pay tribute to those involved in the Armed Services. The festivities start early in the morning at Springer Park and will continue on past the race.

It's our chance to thank those who have and are serving America and providing freedom around the world. Our goal is to line the race route with "flag-waving" Americans cheering on the runners...especially the soldiers and veterans who are running.

Come early to participate in the opening ceremonies, followed by a 5K Run/Walk and 1K Kids Fun Run. Make sure to join us at the finish line as well to enjoy music and lunch. This will be a fun-filled day with activities for the entire family. Proceeds from this patriotic event will benefit our Disabled American Veterans. Donations will also be accepted on the day of the race.

Reaching Out To Your Kids (Part 1)

In this story you’ll hear from Jerry Sparby, Cold Spring Elementary Principal, strongly encourages parents to get directly involved in their children’s lives. His message illustrates the difference between just being “with” your child and being “involved with” your child.

In addition, Sparby points out that just because your child may seem happy with his/her friends outside of the home, does not mean that they don’t need parental attention, care, guidance, etc.
