On Thursday January 24, Sauk Rapids Superintendent Greg Vandal addressed the Sauk Rapids Chamber of Commerce. Superintendent Vandal addressed key budget issues and reminded chamber members that the school is a business that must comply with budget procedures. He also spoke about certain cuts that must be made and encouraged people to be active in this process by attending public meetings such as the listening session on Tuesday, February 19th. On Thursday January 24, 2008 the Sauk Rapids Chamber gathered to hear a presentation given by Kent Gustafson about his business HIR, LLC. There was a record crowd on hand and they all learned about the important business solutions that HIR could provide business owners. The Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm took on the River Lakes Stars in CLC action. The Storm were coming off of a tough loss to the Alexandria Cardinals earlier in the week. It was a slow start for the Storm boys as they saw the Stars get the first goal. After that it was all Storm hockey at its finest. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the Storm.

Sauk Rapids/Rice vs St. Cloud Apollo boys wrestling

Sauk Rapids/Rice wrestling was in action at home against the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles. The Storm boys dug themselves an early hole as they trailed 22-0. Sauk Rapids/Rice went on to win the next 5 matches and cut the lead to one at 22-21 but the Eagles proved to be too much in the end. Stay tuned to Digelog as Tyler Spiczka goes for the school record for all-time wins and Evan Warnert approaches the 100 win plateau.

On Tuesday January 15th, the Sauk Rapids Storm boy’s hockey team took on the always-difficult Cardinals from Alexandria. The Storm got off to a sluggish start, but strong goal-tending from Beau Jacobson would allow them the chance to get back into the game as both Matt Szymanski and Travis Cariveau scored for the Storm.  As hard as the Storm battled back it would not be enough as they fell to the Cardinals 4-2. It’s back and now is the time to join the fun!  The Cold Spring Jaycees invites the public to enter their soup or chili favorites for the upcoming Soup & Chili Bowl to be held on January 26, 2008 from 5-11 PM at the Gluek Distribution Center.  Contestants will feature their own recipes and condiments for purchase in an exciting, festive atmosphere. The entry fee is free with an opportunity to win great cash prizes in each soup or chili category.  While the contest is taking place, attendees will enjoy the Old Time music of the Peter and Paul Wendinger Band that plays from 5-7:30 PM and the rock and roll sounds of Slip Twister from 8-11 PM.  Contestant space is limited; register today!

Sartell-Sauk Rapids/Rice vs River Lakes Girls Hockey January 15th

The Sartell Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm'n Sabres took on their inter-conference rivals, the River Lakes Stars in Sartell. The first period was all about defense and goaltending. During the intermission both head coaches must have said something about offensive production because the during the second period we saw 6 goals in under five minutes. The Storm'n Sabres had a two goal lead for the majority of the game and picked up a huge CLC win.

Sauk Rapids/Rice took on the ROCORI Spartans in CLC action on January 11th. Sauk Rapids/Rice started out on a 4-0 run before ROCORI was forced to take a timeout. It was a difficult game for the Storm girls as they were unable to really get into a flow on offense. Their defense at times reeked havoc on the Spartans but in the end it wouldn't be enough to secure a win.

Sauk Rapids/Rice took on a very good Tech Tigers team. The Storm would jump out to a quick start mainly because of their ability to break the full court press applied by the Tigers. St. Cloud Tech shot tremendously from behind the arc and would capitalize on turnovers late in the first half and early in the second half.

On Thursday January 11, the Sauk Rapids Storm Boys Swim team traveled to Cold Spring to take on their CLC rivals, the ROCORI Spartans. The Storm jumped out to an early lead and would be able to hold off a fierce comeback. Hats off to Adam Gross, Jon Cesena, and Ben Swanson for their outstanding performances. Good luck to the Boys swim team as the regular season winds down and they gear up for the playoffs.

It was the biggest game of the season for the Sauk Rapids/Rice Storm as they took on CLC rival the Tech Tigers. Travis Cariveau and Cole Christiansen each tallied three points for the Storm as they dominated play in the third period. Beau Jacobson had another great game between the pipes as he only allowed two goals.

The Sauk Rapids/Rice boys basketball team was in action against the Brainerd Warriors. The Warriors built and early first half lead due in large part to a high shooting percentage. The Storm would fight their way back into the game in the second half on the shoulders of great defense. In the end the Storm would fall just short. It was a game that the Storm can build on for the season.

Sauk Rapids/Rice took on Willmar in a CLC Wrestling Match. The evening was all about the Senior Captain Tyler Spiczka. He reached the 100 win club, an elite club that few wrestlers reach in their career. Sauk Rapids/Rice would eventually go on to win picking up huge points in the CLC standings.

As part of their Christmas celebration, the city of Sauk Rapids held their annual “Parade of Lights Holiday Celebration.” This event serves as a fund raiser for the Pageant, a service project for the community of Sauk Rapids, and a food drive for local food shelves. The event also recognizes and awards winners of the best home lighting displays in Sauk Rapids and features “A Night with Santa” for young children to fill goody  bags with candy, fruit and popcorn. Families will enjoy taking pictures with the Royalty, Santa and Mrs. Claus who will arrive on a lighted float, coming down Benton Drive around 5:30 p.m. on their way to Pleasantview School. DigElog Sauk Rapids would like to thank all of those involved with this wonderful community event. Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed.
