ROCORI girls softball goes up against a feisty St. Cloud Cathedral team in a post season battle royal.  The two teams battle till the bottom of the 4th when St. Cloud Cathedral scores the first run of the game.  The in the top of the 5th, ROCORI opens up and makes it at game.  The final, ROCORI 2, St. Cloud Cathedral 1.

ROCORI Spartans softball girls hosted Saint Cloud Apollo Eagles.  The Lady Spartans bats were blazing hot on this day.  The Spartans win this one hands down  11-0 over the Eagles.

ROCORI Spartans Lose in Final Against Zimmerman

After getting so close to the state tournament in 2008, the ROCORI Spartans took a healthy team to Whitney Field in St. Cloud as they matched up against Zimmerman in the 2009 Section Playoffs. Facing elimination, the Thunder dominated play through the first four innings as they took a 3-0 lead into the 6th inning. ROCORI put one run across the plate and then scored two more in the 7th to knot the score at 3-3. However, the Thunder put their first two batters on base, and the Spartans made a costly error on a sacrifice bunt that cost them the game. Although ROCORI did not make the state tournament, they had a fantastic season and the entire community is proud of their effort. Way to go Spartans!

ROCORI Plays Paynesville in Second Half of Doubleheader

When the ROCORI Spartans traveled to Eden Valley High School for the subsection championship game against Cathedral, they were aware that a loss would force them to play a doubleheader. However, they had no idea that after a 12-inning marathon match-up between Paynesville and Minnewaska, and a 10-inning game of their own, they would be starting game two after sundown. ROCORI jumped on top of Paynesville early and never looked back. Eventually ROCORI would go on to win by the 10-run rule in six innings, 11-1. ROCORI Battles Cathedral in Softball Subsection Championship

After cruising through the first two rounds of the subsection playoffs, ROCORI was faced with their biggest challenge of the postseason in drawing the St Cloud Cathedral Crusaders. The Spartans sent junior pitcher Chelsey Stang to the mound, and she was brilliant, pitching 10 innings of one-run ball. However, ROCORI was unable to capitalize on their opportunities with runners in scoring position. Ultimately the Spartans fell to Cathedral 2-1. Gopher Sneaks onto Field During Whacky Night of Softball

In a night that featured over 16 innings of softball for the Spartans, the craziest moment was not related to softball at all. During the top half of the 5th inning against Paynesville, a pocket gopher ran out onto the field. Both Stacy Svihel and Brian Athmann attempted to rescue the frisky gopher as the ROCORI bench erupted with laughter. This is a must see highlight!

ROCORI Spartans Beat Minnewaska Lakers 13 - 3 in Subsection Playoffs

After putting together a remarkable season in 2008, the ROCORI Spartans softball team looked to advance further into the playoffs in 2009. In the second round of the subsection playoffs, the Spartans matched up against Minnewaska. Both teams were scoreless after an inning, but the Spartans jumped on top in the second after a sacrifice fly by Shaunte Dwyer. The game was back and forth through the middle innings until ROCORI busted the game open in the fifth as they went on to win 13-3 in six innings. The ROCORI Spartans Girl’s Softball Team is off to a great start this season. Whether it is hitting, pitching, or fielding, the team performs all facets of the game at a high level. Last Thursday, the Spartans drew the always-tough opponent, Brainerd. ROCORI sent senior pitcher Sadie Pfannenstein to the mound while Brainerd countered with a freshman hurler, Nikki Anderson. The first couple of innings unfolded as expected with both pitchers dominating. However, the Warriors drew first blood as they touched the Spartans for four runs in the third inning. ROCORI was not be able to climb back as they fell to the Warriors 4-3. Be sure to follow the Girls Softball team on DigElog ROCORI as they make their 2009 postseason run.
