The Old Glory Run is a first time event held earlier this month that attracted over 700 racers from across the state running a 5k and 1K race in Cold Spring, Minnesota.   In this story, we meet Curt Karls, one of the race organizers, who tells us about how the race came to be.  We're also introduced to John Swanson, a military veteran who lost his leg in the war and is now running again on his artificial leg with his 8 year old son.  John was one of the key inspirations that brought the race idea to the forefront.  Finally, we also meet the group of men and women who ride motorcycles and carry US flags in support our soldiers and veterans.

One special part of this story includes the start of the 1K race where 150 kids of all ages take off together from the starting line.  We even get a quick glimpse of the winning boy and girl crossing the finish line.

Found is based on the Parable of the Lost Coin (Luke 15:8-10). In this film, a wanderer has lost something of great value to him. Overcome, he searches frantically for his most prized possession.
Running Time: approx. 5 min.

8Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' 10In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Recently there was an auction held at Peace Lutheran Church in Cold Spring.  No... the church wasn't being sold or vacated, instead the members had pulled together all sorts of good stuff collecting dust around the house and gave it to the Peace Lutheran Auction committee to be auctioned off to the public.

Peace Lutheran is looking at building expansion sometime in the future and the funds raised during the auction will be used for this purpose.  Pete Jokela, a member of Peace, invited his family down from Park Rapids to conduct the auction.  This is the second consecutive year that the Jokela Auctioneers have donated their services to help raise money at Peace.

This year's hot items included a boat- motor-trailer, a Labrador puppy, a kids 4-wheeler and a SUV automobile.  At the end of the day, the auction committee was pleased to announce that over $10,000 was raised during the auction.  Jerome Miller, committee chair, was pleased with the results and felt the group had met their goal for the day.

Friends Of The Library Campaign

Libraryphoto QUICKTIME

The Cold Spring Friends Of The Library, lead by volunteer President Pat Grelson, have set some aggressive goals to help solve the present library space issues.  Over the past 5 years the number of people using the library and the number of items handled have increased to the point of the facility bursting at the seams.

The Friends Of The Library have approached the city in a matching donation dollars agreement that is projected to raise at least $400,000 over the next 3 years.  Since the campaign began this last December, $11,000 have already been committed to the project.

The Cold Spring Library is located in the Cold Spring City Hall and presently occupies a total of 1600 square feet.  In 2004, the Cold Spring Library had the highest circulation of books per hour than any other library in their 30 plus cooperative.  That includes the communities of St. Cloud, Monticello and Little Falls.

Volunteers have put in more hours than ever before during 2005 to help keep the books flowing to the adults and young people who make use of this valuable resouce in the "Land Of ROCORI".

This story includes great footage of the ornately decorated church, delightful music from the Mary Beth Carlson concert and an exclusive interview  with Joel Frank, the sponsor of the entire "FREE" event.

This concert was given in loving memory of his great-grandparents, Christian and Anna (Nehring) Frank who came from Germany with four children in 1871 and settled in the community.  They attended Salem Church while raising their family.  Today all of the members of the Frank family and their spouses rest in the Old Salem Cemetery across the road from the church.

This past week the Quarry Cinema and the Central Mn Federal Credit Union sponsored the local showing of "March of the Penguins", a National Geographic film. A story about Emperor penguins in the thousands that brave icy winds, freezing temperatures, and starvation in an incredible true story of the penguin life cycle.

Twenty bus loads of K-8 students from all across the "Land of Rocori" attended the movie morning or afternoon over 5 consecutive week days.  There was also a special Saturday morning matinee offered for the general public.

This cooperative effort between two outstanding businesses in our community to provide this opportunity for the "Kids Of ROCORI" is just another reason why the "Land Of ROCORI" is a great place to live and raise our families.   A big "HATS OFF!" thank you to Quarry Cinema and Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union for making this all possible.

Bloodmobile... RIVER STATION, Richmond

Bloodmobile2photo QUICKTIME

The Bloodmobile will be at RIVER STATION in Richmond this coming Monday, December 12th.  The storms of this past summer have placed immense demand on blood and the need for people to donate.

The hurricanes named Katrina and Rita have drastically affected blood collections that would normally occur in these areas of the country.

Have you ever given blood?  Take a tour of the entire process from start to finish.  It takes only an hour and from the results of this investigative video, "It makes you feel really good about what you did!"

This story is sponsored by Backes Wood Products, LLC. in Richmond, Minnesota.  Your local resource for REAL-WOOD paneling, log siding, wood furniture, and other specialty wood products.  Backes Wood Products is located just north of the new water tower in Richmond.  Call 320-597-9663 for an appointment to visit their showroom.
