DigElog ROCORI proudly presents Terror on 23. Last week, Terror on 23 Director Chris Chapman granted DigElog ROCORI full access to the haunted house in Cold Spring. Local service groups such as the Jaycees, ROCORI athletic groups, and The Great Northern Theater Company are heavily involved in the production and for their members’ time, each organization receives a share of the event’s profits. If you haven’t made it out to Terror on 23, it is a must see. Best of all, the entire haunted house is indoors, the cost is minimal, and the proceeds go to a great cause.

ROCORI Cities March Toward "Yellow Ribbon Community"

YELLOW RIBBON COMMUNITIES provide support to Veterans.

The Race toward becoming Minnesota's first Yellow Ribbon Region began a few weeks ago as a part of the 2nd Annual Old Glory Run.  All three cities that make up the land of ROCORI pledged to pursue this designation over the next year.  Rockville, Cold Spring and Richmond joined 6 other central Minnesota communities in publicly announcing their pursuit of the "Yellow Ribbon Communities" program.  Mayors from all 9 cities joined together, as a part of the "Old Glory Run" closing ceremonies, to sign their letters of intent.

In this story you will hear from Larry Lahr, the city administrator of Cold Spring, and you will also hear from Sergeant 1st Class Melanie Nelson as they tell us about what the designation means. Nelson is the public affairs officer for a group called Beyond the Yellow Ribbon. This organization helps returning soldiers reintegrate back into society. Stay tuned to DigElog ROCORI for more coverage from the 2nd Annual Old Glory Run.

Sneak Preview: Cold Spring Elementary Principal Skanson Eats Worms and Receives Buzz Cut

Be sure to tune into DigElog ROCORI tomorrow as we feature a video montage of Cold Spring Elementary Principal, Eric Skanson eating earth worms and receiving a special buzz cut from his students. Last month, Skanson and another faculty member, Ms. Ebnet, made a deal with the elementary students that for every thousand dollars they raised for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society they would each eat one earth worm. In addition, Skanson also made an agreement that if the students raised a certain level of funds, he would buzz his hair. You don't want to miss this story!

The third annual Jaycees Soup and Chili Bowl was held on Saturday January 24, 2009 at the Cold Spring Brewing Distribution Center. Over 1800 people came through the doors on the blistery evening, and those who attended got a chance to sample some of Minnesota’s best soups and chilis. Profits from the event will go toward the ROCORI Trail project. Those who attended contributed over $500 in cash as well as donations totaling to over 1,200 pounds of food for our local food shelf. Altogether the event was an astounding success. Hats off to the Jaycees and all that helped to make this event possible. See you next year at the 4th annual Soup and Chili Bowl.

Soup & Chili Next Weekend

Brian Eisenschenk with the Cold Spring Jaycees stopped by today to remind everyone about next Saturday's 3rd Annual Soup & Chili Bowl. 40 different entrees will be featured. Come early and stay late. This is a fun event for the entire family.

The third annual Jaycees Soup and Chili bowl is here, and if you missed out last year, you won’t want to miss this year’s event! The Cold Spring Jaycees invites the public to enter their soup or chili favorites for the upcoming Soup & Chili Bowl to be held on ...

*  January 24, 2009 from 5-11 PM at the Cold Spring Brewing Company Distribution Center. 

Contestants will feature their own recipes and condiments for purchase in an exciting, festive atmosphere. The entry fee is free with an opportunity to win great cash prizes in each soup or chili category.  While the contest is taking place, attendees will enjoy music from the Marv Nissel Band that plays from 5- 8:00 PM and the rock and roll sounds of That 70’s Band from 8-11 PM.
