Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Richard N. Thomes, age 82, who died Tuesday surrounded by his family at home. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Minnesota States Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
Gathering of relatives and friends will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday (TODAY) and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Golden Smiles Senior Citizens. The Richmond American Legion will pray at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Richard was born in Richmond, MN to Henry and Catherine (Utsch) Thomes. He married Rosalie Backes on May 5, 1956 in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Farming. Richard served in the United States Army as a MP from 1949–1953 during the Korean War. He retired in 1992 from Wiman Plastics where he was a machine operator. Richard was an avid gardener and Minnesota sports fan. He enjoyed doing anything outdoors; from raking leaves to mowing lawn. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish and the Richmond American Legion where he was past commander from1962-1964.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rosalie; children, Rick (Susan), Tim (Janet), Scott (Kelly) , Cindy (Al) Braegelman, and Patrick; grandchildren, Amber, Nick, Katie Thomes, Michelle, Melissa, Jonathan Kurtz, Marie Thomes, Tia and Kendra Braegelman; siblings, Mary (Henry) Mackedanz, Fran (John) Jamison, Norbert (Carol) Thomes; sisters-in-law, Gert Thomes and Lorraine Thomes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed, Gregor and Joe; sisters, Vern and Helen.
Memorials are preferred to Albany Area Hospice, Kathy & Marie Ebnet Scholarship Fund @ Albany High School or Sts. Peter & Paul Church Building Fund.
